the original k-240 had no letter designation, but was called the k-240 "sextet."
be carefull, as some sellers (esp ebayers) dont know that the letter is important.

its most easily visible feature is the headband pleather has holes in it.
also, the drivers have a mesh over them (like a k-340) and unlike the newer k240's which have foam.

the only have 1 actual driver, and 6 little passive drivers. but they are still uberhot.

Well since AKG has just stopped manufacturing the K240m I'm having a terrible hard time finding a european retailer selling these phones. Anyone have any recommendation for a brick-wall/online store where one could still get a pair of these?

Surprisingly similar soundsignature. Bass is just bit different, as is some finesse and such thingamabob. Both have slow bass, K81DJ is bit more blasting where K240S is just sloppy groove.

hehehe maza I agree. I owned both already and sold the k240s. I am also selling the k81djs cause i need more airiness. cant stand the dull nature of the highest frequencies. This thread is pretty old

I saw the 240s, and I'm going to buy a pair. Only cans for a price of 70$ I saw that are audiophile grade, have a detachable cable, partially open backed, and easy to drive from my e11. Can't wait to try them!

Just got a pair of K240 phones that says Professional Studio Standard on the box. Are these MK II's ? How can you tell?   Been listening to Led Zep for about 40 min  Sound is good and fit is great  Pretty good for 70 bucks I think

there is no difference in sound between k240 and k240 mkII. The only difference is that the MKII includes an extra pad and a cable or something. You paid 70$ like I did a week ago to get mine(received them 2 days ago. :)), so therefore you have the k240. Not the mkII. Don't worry, the mkII is 120$, so 50$ more for just a pad and cable. I did my research before buying them. Good choice.

If the driver covers touch your ears and are slightly uncomfortable, just stuff some cloth first aid kit wrappings in between the cans and the pads. I couldn't detect any change in sound quality after doing it.

I just picked up some Austria K240 and they are absolutely remarkable. $30 I paid for and I feel like they do everything well. Clamp could be better, but these are older cans. When I press them flush to get a seal ooo baby. Love them.
