AEON, MrSpeakers' New Closed Back Planar Magnetic Headphone
Jun 16, 2017 at 6:32 PM Post #2,027 of 5,483
Any news on burn in for the Aeon? I've had it burning in for the last 4 days and was wondering if anyone has any new findings to share about changes in sound. Thank you.

I let it burn in for about 150 hours and I thought that the treble settled in for a smoother and more well-rounded sound after burn-in. Not a huge difference, but noticeable to my ears.

Anyone seen this?

"I’ve said it before in previous coverage, Dan Clark’s ears are probably his biggest asset. Regardless of his current wares, the rigs he constructs for shows are comprised of an usually diverse list of components, but always sum to a grand overall sound." -AudioHead

Cheers to MrSpeakers's DOUBLE AWARD WIN at #LAAS17 for both the ÆON and new Ether #electrostatic headphones!

I completely agree - the MrSpeakers rigs at shows always sound good. At LAAS there was an Ether C Flow driven by a Cavalli Liquid Glass fed by a Mystique (I think) non-oversampling DAC that sounded absolutely wonderful to my ears.

Glad you enjoyed it! It's quite a setup, right? The Liquid Glass is still one of my all time favorites, it's my primary desktop at the office. My desk is covered with tubes for rolling.

For the curious, the Mystique is by Mojo Audio, who also made the CAT Server front end for that system.

Hey, I'm wondering if the DUM cable would be considered a step up from the cable that came with the Aeons.
Maybe its just me, but I can't see any difference between the "dummer" cable and the last "dum" cable I got with my ether flows....with the exception of the 3.5mm termination. The splitter on the dummer cable is actually a bit better. The diameter and sheathing looks identical.

The sheath IS identical but the connectors and wire are higher quality on the DUM cable.

Can anyone suggest a 2.5 female 3.5 male adapter for my custom balanced cable. I ordered one from Amazon with the right specs, but I get signal from the R channel only.. I am not confident in order there again.

Any recommendations of DAC/amps for a transportable rig? Most suggestions I see here are for desktop/home use. I heard that the Mojo pairs well with the Aeons, any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Edit: Currently I'm using an iBasso DAC/amp, will any other combinations do much better?

i'm using a chord mojo/extender module and ipod touch 6..with either sony mdr 7520 cans or FLC 8S earphones.
would i prefer not to have a brick?...of course....but until this bites the dust (and i'll p/u a cowan plenue 2 or ibasso dx200) i'll keep it for now

It sounds great with the Mojo. Only have to pump up the volume to well below half of maximum.

Someone in this thread said earlier that the micro iDSD BL sounds good with it as well. I'm curious to hear the impressions of someone who can compare both this and the Mojo to each other with the Aeon...
