Hi everyone, I am looking for some advice, I currently have the 8.35D and I mainly use them to produce with Ableton, particularly tech house/house. I really like the 8.35D and I have another pair that I never used and wanted to trade or sell my pair and grab another. I'm also about to pick the new VRM Box from Focusrite, if you havnt read about it check it out, pretty cool little box for $99. I'd like to have both the current 8.35D and also another pair of headphones for this style of music, maybe something that is a bit bassier. What would you suggest in the price range of $200-300. I was maybe thinking about grabbing the AKG 702 or the Ultrasone 750. Any input is greatly appreciated. I also DJ so that could be a consideration for the new pair as well, the 8.35D do a great job imo, but never hurts to have better.

I'd like to add that I do not have any studio monitors so my tracks are mostly based off my headphones, thats also why Im grabbing the VRM box. I do go over to my friends place and he has KRK 8s to hear my tracks on a monitor.

K702 =/= bassier.  Those two words can't accurately be used in the same sentence without some form of the word "not".

Here's a whole crapload of studio headphone threads which might give you some ideas.

The k702 will give you tons of detail and big sound stage, but they're not bass monsters by any means. The bass sounds very good with the mostly acoustic and rock that I listen to and produce....don't know about the genres that you're producing. I'm sure Acix can chime in about that since he produces electronica. Definitely going to check out that VRM box myself!

I just read this and I quote Acix "The K702 are the best Headphones for Studio Production/Mixing and mastering. I use them every day in my music productions and my mastering work..."

I hope he chimes in here, cause I remember him doing a review on the 8.35D when he got them. If my memory serves correct

Acix loves his K702.  Some people love them some people don't.  I don't hate them but I also don't like them very much.  My iphone speakers put out more and deeper bass than the K702 and when it comes to the midrange, it's kind of a tie, they are both thin and peaky.

PPIZZ, I'm glad you like the 8.35, they are great without external sound card. The K-702 are even more impressive at work, but you 'll need some hp amp. Or a sound card that have a good hp amp section like the Apogee's Mini DAC(PC / Mac) and the Duet (only for Mac users).

You can get a used K-702 (check out the FS forum ) and take them to a session at your local guitar center, I know they have the Apogee's, and maybe the VRM box as well (you'll need to call and check).

Wow, that's great! Hope it's good, look forward to hearing your impression of it. I've heard someone claiming that the TB Isone plug-in is better at doing what the VRM box can do, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work with my Logic Pro 9, maybe you can check that out too, since the VST is only 20 euro.
As for studio headphones, I'd totally recommend the LCD-2 as long as you don't mind the big price tag and the 2 month wait.
