Hi all,

I was wondering what would be your answers... If you had a choice between Audio Technica AD900 and AD1000, which would you pick?

I know it sounds stupid, but the difference is $90 only!! I have already pushed up myself from AD700 to AD900 which is about $125 dearer; I'm thinking if I'm spending AU$325 for AD900, with only $90 more I can have AD1000.

Help me please with your advices.

Cheers

I absolutely love my AD900s. Right now, I'm putting the USD100 or so I saved over the 1000s towards the building of a CK2III. Any idea what those cost to DIY?

---

They say the AD500 sounds like the AD700 "properly burned in" and the AD700 is almost as good as the 900 if it's burned in, so one can believe what one wants. I can't really be more happy with the price/performance on the AD900s I have now.

'course you can probably get Bose's QC2 for that kind of money. (My roommate has one, it's totally not worth it.)

I hope this helps. Have a good day,

What are your music preferences? Like which genre's and the bitrates too? How do you like your bass? Lossless? MP3? Are you going to be using the cans with a CD player or computer or even mp3 player as a source? Are you going to be using an amp? A DAC? The AD1000 usually isn't mentioned around here, as many dislike it. The AD2000 is really the one to shoot for.

I have the AD1000s. I really don't think they are as bad as the Head-Fi consensus suggests. I have heard the AD900s briefly. They seemed to have a better balance with more bass but were not quite as airy as the ad1000s.

I'd get the AD900s, if only because they'd be a better resale proposition.

I'll be getting the 1000s tomorrow. I'm considering some other ADs to compare them to.

The things that always seem to be said about AD900 and AD1000 is that the latter is more detailed to the point of being analytical.

Thanks for your responses,

The thing is, I can't really find AD2000 here and try it.
I am a musician. I compose, arrange and play with my keyboards. I like the Bass but to be not too bassy. I need a clear headphone to distinguish the reverb and other levels when i play around with them.
I don't have amps and neither my keyboards have. I had too much hassle finding a suitable amp for my purpose. On this forums I asked and asked and ended to a good headphone which doesn't need an amp. So I decided to go for AD700, for some reasons I didn't buy it and now, I can afford paying for AD900 or AD1000. I would guess AD2000 is better, but where in my city I can find one? Who knows...

I'm in Perth in Western Australia, the last - furthest city in the World!!!

Oh yeah I know what you mean... I have tried many of them... as I said before coz I don't find a proper head amp for my purposes, I decided to stick to ATH. Otherwise, my first choice was AKG K702 + head amp...

At the same price point you can get the Alessandro MS2's which should be better than the AD1000's.

Thanks for your comment. I have tried Alessandro MS2 and MSPro. They are fantastic sound wise; however, physically I feel more comfortable with ATH models rather than Alessandro's.

The AD1000's would have to be a large step up from the AD900's for that to even be a possibility.
