At ACS when I had my ear impressions done I wasn't given any instructions other than to relax. It was over in 3 minutes or so and my impressions were (of course) perfect. I had my mouth closed but I was relaxed, and the impressions were deep ones; much deeper than any I have ever dared to do on myself. ACS made me some custom sleeves based on my own impressions 2 years ago and they're also a perfect fit.
Where are you getting your impressions done?

Leightons in Poole.  £30 normally, but as I understand it the price of impressions is included.

Below is a shot of the type that I normally get from them :-

The bass is one of the best aspects of the Encores' sound but the midrange is pretty special too. I've heard only good things about the Evoke. I agree, for work use only they'd probably be more than adequate.

Interesting.  When I say work, I just mean that I get to listen to music at work.  I obviously do have to concentrate on what I'm doing (scanning, and today I wanted to put my fist through it, grrr), so if the evoke would do (and I do like the universal) then that would save me a few £££ as well!  I'm also happier playing in the £3-400 ball park than the £7-800 as well!

Hi David,
Well they look just great to me , very similar to how mine looked. I think it's absolutely great to you're able to keep yourselves relaxed with a little music while you're working.
I have no doubt the Evokes will do you well. Have ACS or any of their suppliers got any deals on at the moment? ACS will price match any deal you can find on the net. If not, why not say you're from headfi....you never know

Hi everyone. I had climbed all over this huge thread but had not seen anything about the importent new technology of Encore. Which may be more critical than the added tweeters I think.

The canal part of Encore looks different with that of T1 (Evolve). I think ACS must had done something on sound tubes to release the potential of all 5 speakers. The 5 speakers are (from the pics) 22955, and two sets of 30017, thus they have 3 nozzles(The Evolve has 2 nozzles). There are still 2 sound tubes on canal part of Encore, So how 3 nozzles can influx to 2 sound tubes would be very importent. I noticed that Encore has two tubes but one is looked wider than the other, which to my knowledge had never been achieved on all other soft silicon CIEMs. Further more, the damper assembly in the wider tube is brand-new to us. In fact I saw both new type dampers in both tubes. If anyone can explain to me, I will appreciate.

After years with the Shure SE530s I quite recently bought a pair of the Shure SE846 and thought they were the best thing ever. But now I've got the ACS Encores and they are so impressive I lack words. It is like listening to a pair of very, very expensive studio monitors. Crisp, open, balanced, powerful, relaxed... ...fantastic that you can have that sound in a pair of ear buds. Highly reccomended!

These things do sound amazing. I've been back and forth with acs since I started out with a T1 Black Friday sale, poor fits, technical problems, upgrades, finally think I'm done. They have been really responsive to my problems. Still not 100% perfect fit in my mutant left ear, but nothing ever is. The lubricant fluid helps. The sound is about the most open, natural, real sound I've heard from an iem.

Had all those problems too and have become frustrated with them at times. Then I use them again and can't believe how good they sound. It's a shame they didn't make it into Jelt's big review thread.

Think Jelt is still in the technical difficulties phase of the process...

Not sure about that, but not a bad ending if that's what happened. On the other hand, having more than one of these doesn't seem to be any advantage. They can't even be rebuilt and sold.

I think ACS sent him two pairs to begin with and neither were satisfactory. I believe he had better luck with the third pair.

You can get them reshelled but it's not something that most manufacturers - ACS included - are willing to undertake. Seems stupid but I think ACS are the kind of company who cater mainly to performers rather than audiophile types.

I think you're right that they are more geared to musicians, but they developed their line looking at audiophiles as well. They told me the headphones can't be reshelled, and offered me my T1s at a very discounted price when I upgraded (still was cheaper to just take the Encore, which is what I did).

Yeah, they split their models into 'Live' and 'Studio' in order to cater to both sectors of the market, but traditionally I think they oriented more towards stage use.

They should be willing to reshell their IEMs regardless of who they make them for. Most of the manufacturers popular on here know the importance of resale value.

From what I've read the Encore is a huge upgrade over the T1. I think you made the right decision there.

The Live! ones have ambient microphones. Those called Studio do not.

...and are meant for audiophiles.
