Absolute best budget earbuds?

How do you get earbuds in a good position in your ears? I bought a couple of pairs and I like the sound but if I press them in a bit, they sound much better. And I can't stop fiddling with them because of that... Are you supposed to be able to get a good seal with them?
in all honesty, fit and the effect on the sound quality is one of the biggest weaknesses with buds. You will always have better bass and better sound overall when you push in your buds. This is one of the constraints that manufacturers are working with in tuning ear buds. However, in my opinion, most of the emphasis seems to have been on bass, at the sacrifice muddying lower mids. I'm sure there are also some physical constraints in tuning buds drivers.

Buds in general suffer with technicalities. The main reason buds aficionados love them are:
- sound stage is expansive. $4 bud can rival the sound stage of $150+ iems.
- ability to hear ambient sounds for awareness (in my case, work from home and need to hear surroundings)
- for some, when you find the right size, buds can be more comfortable for long listening sessions compared to iems.

someone did an excellent write up on the various standard shells and their sizes on the buds roundup thread. ask there or search for it. I don't have the post handy. :frowning2:

Generally, buds are much warmer in tonality compared to iems. There are a few exceptions, but even then they're still slightly warm in the mids and very analog-sounding, which is appealing to some.

Thank you. Just knowing it's not only me makes me feel better. If can overcome my OCD, maybe I can enjoy them.

I wear ‘foams’ with all my ‘earbuds’. Foams with a donut hole can be purchased. I put one regular foam on the earbud. Then I put a donut foam on top of the first one. It makes the earbud bigger and hopefully fit better and sound better.

As per this post, there are different earbud shapes available on the market. So first step is to see what fits you well, maybe buy some cheapish sub $10 ones to get a feel, then upgrade from there: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/earbuds-round-up.441400/page-3207#post-15645387

Sometimes, I have to rotate the stem of the earbud to a more horizontal position to get a better fit, YMMV as we have different ear anatomies.

If u find the bass increases with pushing the earbud into the ear, u can possibly benefit from using a thicker foam (or even a 2nd layer of foam over the first piece). How do u tell how dense is your foam? U can put it against a light source and see how much light enters, compared to another foam, and then opt for the thicker foam if u need more bass/fit in the ear.

Don't forget there are also silicone 'rings' that can be added for additional size without having to double up on foams.

Thanks very much, I'll check that post out. I have a couple of pairs I bought a while ago but they might be the same shape...a cheap pair of VE Monks and a pair of NICEHCK DIY Graphene. I do find that if I rotate the NICEHCK earbuds so the stem is around 45 degrees from horizontal, I get a much better sound.

My apologies for asking off topic questions on this thread but many thanks for the help. I discovered today that just donuts and the earbuds rotated so the arm is virtually horizontal is what works for me with the MX500 shell. Really enjoyed the 2017 NICEHCK Graphenes earlier.

(The donuts are thicker than the sponges I was using I think)

Other recommendations are very much welcome. Oh, and something that comes with a mic is better as I can use it for online classes. Then, I'd be buying a **** 8-core cable for my iem (QKZ VK4). I only have an Iphone 5s as a power source.

I want something with a sound signature of the polar opposite. Thank you so much, Head-fi peeps!

U can try asking the folks here: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/earbuds-round-up.441400/

Vidos are very good for the price. I got a few pairs at $1.40 each the last sale. I read that different colours have different tuning, but as I don't have the entire pokemon collection, u might ask some of the other earbud enthusiasts there who have the entire spectrum.

RY4S 32 ohm plus is not bad too to consider.

You should try out the Ks Nameless, its almost hard to believe that its only $2.50. For me, it sounds WAY better than vidos since it is clearer and also the great separation and timbre. The bass can also catch up with the vidos

Is the build quality better than the others in that price range? What's the sound signature like? Thanks in advance fellow Filipino!

Considering the very cheap price, the build is pretty damn strong, they dont get tangled at all. The sound signature is kind of bassy(?) but in my experience it excels in bass, mids, and highs.

Also here's a filipino review of the ks nameless that I found:

Thanks! I've also watched his review yesterday and I was really curious to how earbuds sounded compared to IEMS.
