Denon D5000 then. If you could find one in stock you would love it.

Except you can't. At least not in one day and under 500 bucks for a new pair. I'd have recommended the 5000 as well but since they're discontinued I mentioned the 600 instead.

What's wrong with the K1000 headband? You don't even feel/notice the support elements.

I don't think there's a single "instagib" here - you'd have to try whatever suggested to know if you like it or not. If you want a livlier sound than the QC15, the ESW are a better sonic choice than the K1000; you might also try the K550 (they aren't my favorite at all, but they might be the ticket based on what you're describing - not too huge, some isolation, less bass than the QC15, mid-treble forward; if the ESW are out I'd probably say try the 550).

Looking at the K550's. These look really impressive. How is the imaging compared to something like the HiFiman HE-400, the HiFiman RE-262, or the Sennheiser HD 598. (These are some of the headphones I have so that I can have a comparison.

amazon has the W1000X for ~450 too, sold by Beach Camera. I'm now tempted to get them again.

Guys, while the W1000x do look like nice headphones, the design with the two bars on top doesn't work too well for me, as well as them not being portable headphones at all.

Yeah the fit on AT Wing headphones is always particular - and the W series are the worst of the bunch (they don't tilt). Not portable by any means. :xf_eek:

Which W model do you refer to? From what I can tell W5000 and AD2000 I own share the same construction wings. There is very subtle variation in the design but functionally they are identical.

None of the W series will tilt in-out like the ART monitor cans do (and like most headphones ever made will do) - they only swivel. That's why you see all of the threads about bending W series headphones headbands (be it W5000, W1000, W1000X, W3000ANV, etc).

I should mention, this has nothing to do with the wings, but the mounts for the cups themselves. The W series mount on a swivel to the wing mechanism, while the A series mount on a gimbal (which itself is hooked to the swivel). I know there's a few generations of wing mechanism represented across time, and some behave better than others.
