Can someone tell me why we HAVE TO pay the extra $1,440.00 ($60.00 AS&S plan) for 2 whole years for the crappy service

ATT is pretty solid in the Boston market as far as service goes.

Your info is not correct. In fact, in France they were only allowed to do so because they were sued for not doing so. In the end, you had to pay close to 1000 Euro for a non-contract iPhone. In Germany you can only buy the iPhone in Telekom shops together with a contract.

Vodafone and Apple to bring iPhone 3G to Australia, Italy, New Zealand & Portugal on July 11 - Vodafone

"Australia, Italy, New Zealand and Portugal will be the first Vodafone markets to offer customers iPhone 3G for purchase on July 11. iPhone 3G will be available via Vodafone on both prepay and contract price plans which will include great value data bundles."

It doesn't say how much the iPhone will be, but at least they have prepaid plan instead of only contract.

I'm sure the prepaid iPhone won't be more than $199.

It's Australia, I'm guessing it will be a lot more. We always get screwed over in such areas. If it is not, i'll be out there getting one as soon as there released.

Looks like Canadians are going to have to sign a 3year contract to get this with either fido or rogers

In USA iphone 8gb @ $199USD and 16gb @ $299USD.

Sure with 24 months contract. Min voice plan @ 39.99USD + 30USD unlimited data X 24 months plus $199USD upfront for 8gb = Total $1878.76 or for 16gb total $1978.76USD.

In Oz people don't like paying upfront fee for phones so we have a higher voice plan.

The inside word at optus is $0 upfront $59AUD voice plan + $20AUD 1gb data X 24 months for 8gb version total $1896AUD.

16gb version $0 upfront $79AUD voice + $20AUD data x 24 months total $2376AUD.

For prepaid 8gb $599AUD and 16gb $799AUD.

So it's $560.16 USD for the 8 Gb and $747.09 USD for the 16Gb approximately. How much is the prepaid card itself? Is 'Optus' one of the cell phone provider? (I'm not familiar with OZ, so pardon me.) Would you happen to know about Vodafone's iPhone plan?

LOL, I'm with you there. I absolutely hate Sprint now, but SERO is such an awesome deal.

I still wouldn't get an iPhone since it's slaved to AT&T. Only other carrier I'd consider jumping to would be Verizon. They have far better coverage. GSM is very spotty to non-existent coverage where I live. And GSM 3G coverage in the USA is a joke.

I have Verizon its been ok but pricing is on the high side I can get more bang
for my buck with AT&T.

I am really curious on what the local price will be.
Its will be available with a two (2) year contact with NetCom. But sadly no prices are available yet, even if the US price are ready...

Fingers crossed that it will be a fair price tag.

They still haven't release the upgrading terms on existing non-iphone user, ATT subscribers. As long as I can get one for $199, I don't mind spending $60 a month since that's what I pay now anyway.
