3G iPhone Thread

Stopped by my AT&T store today to check on pricing & they claimed it was just released today:

Single Phone (anytime minutes/nigh&WEnd):
450/5000 900/Unlimited 1350/Unlimited
$70 $90 $110

Family Talk (2 iPhones):
700/Unlimited 1400/Unl 2100/Unl
$130 $150 $170

$40 additional per line up to 3 additional iPhones.

And as expected the text plan is additional. Unlimited Data & Mobile to Mobile, "Video" Voicemail & Rollover minutes apply on both plans.

I had planned on upgrading to the new iPhone but found out I can't until February as my 2 year limit isn't up from my last phone. To upgrade before then would cost an additional $200 per phone, although they did mention that may change at some point...

"AT&T confirmed the phone will cost $199 to $299 with two-year contracts, depending on memory capacity. It plans to offer the phones for $599 to $699 without a contract later this year."

Good news; I'll just have to wait and Apple won't be able to tell me which plan I have to use for the iPhone. It is still pricey though, $700, might as well get a laptop. I can live without being connected on the web 24/7 on the road.

I wish the non-contract price of the Iphone was cheaper. Guess, I'll wait and see if there is any refresh to the Ipod Touch this Fall, before I make a decision. I still have one year left on my Verizon contract, but the JesusPhone calls to me.

Same here, but I don't think that would be possible. The 3G iPhone has been estimated to cost around $180 in parts, not including packaging, distribution, after-sales service, etc. Add to that the fact service providers have to pay Apple a few hundred bucks for every sale and then factor in the profit margins... the $600 handset-only price doesn't seem so unreasonable any more.

Yeah, a lower non-contract iPhone would be appreciated.
Over here we have to sign up for a contract, then to break out of it we have to pay ~$700 (NOK 3500), depending on which contract we signed. Making the 8GB iPhone cost $800 (NOK 4000) and the 16GB iPhone $1000 (NOK 5000).

A lot of money for a cellular phone.

So what is the bottom line for us current AT&T customers with the first-gen iPhone? How easily and how much will it cost to buy the new iPhone and use it with my existing contract?

From what I heard $299 (for 16G) and you will be required to sign a new 2 year contract. This price also applies to existing AT&T customers who are eligble for a phone upgrade. If you are not an existing AT&T customer, it will cost you $499 with a two year contract. I believe the no contract offer will not be immediately available.

Edit: here's a link with the price plans.
