"“You don't necessarily get to schedule wins (in the Pac-10) like everyone else does in the country,” said UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel, whose Bruins didn’t go for the cupcake victories when his Bruins (4-8) played Kansas State, Houston and Texas.

“What you’ll see is a trend of schools starting to schedule (non-conference) games they can win to give them a little cushion when it comes to league play,” said Washington coach Steve Sarkisian, who knows how the Pac-10 played a combined seven games against FCS opponents in 2010 while the ACC and the SEC cakewalked through 13 and 11 FCS teams, respectively."

It's just going to be that much sweeter when the Ducks take the championship

And like I said Thomas has good wheels as well as being poised in the pocket. That was a great article, here's the link:

Dude, your non-conference schedule has the appearence of being tougher because for the most part your conference schedule is a cake walk.

In your opinion, you forgot that part since you have not come up with anything to support your assertion.

The Pac's bowl record isn't too shabby either, 3rd best over the last decade against BCS teams, second as far as major conferences; SEC was first though. The Pac's modern Rose Bowl record also proves they are no pushovers.

Just for the record, I take it you are picking Auburn for the BCS championship?

In a normal situation, I would for sure pick Auburn.  But now it is coming down to how Newton will handle being a Heisman winner (if he is) and mostly the recent coaching turmoil.  I will be suprised if Gus is the OC at Auburnon gameday.  If Mullins returns to the Gators, Gus could wind up at Miss State as HC.  I just hgope Urban's latest retirement doesn't cost us our coach.  He was their plan B when they hired Urban.  Still to early to pick a winner for me.  Today though, I would pick Auburn

Ahhh...the Heisman jinx is a powerful thing. One is wise to heed its long shadow.

BTW, anyone up for a bowl pick 'em? Yes? Great!

Here is the bowl schedule. Simply copy/quote and bold your pick for every game. Ex: Auburn vs Oregon. Every correct pick is worth one point. Highest final total wins.

For the tiebreaker, predict the final score for the BCS National Championship. Ex. Auburn 35 Oregon 31. The closest total (66 in the example) wins. Picks due before kickoff of the first game. No final score can be used more than once.

Whoa these are eerily close to my picks. The main difference is I think Florida will lose their bowl game and I changed up a couple of the other games. I was also thinking 28-35 for the final but I'll go ahead and say Oregon 31- Auburn 42 now so 73.

Neuheisel is right. The Pac-10 beats the hell out of each other with nine conference games. It's the toughest conference in the US. Whenever I see other conferences scheduling a bunch of I-AA pushovers it drives me nuts. If I recall, the BCS doesn't calculate the I-AA teams, either, making a nice loophole for the cupcake wins.

And Auburn is going to have a hell of a time with Oregon. That ain't a normal football team. Their uptempo approach is not something Auburn has never dealt with. For those of you who haven't been watching a bunch of Pac-10 games, opposing teams often fake injuries with the Ducks. They do this just to get a breather. Auburn has a lot of talented kids and they're a great team. But no matter how talented you are, when you're gasping for breath and desperately tired, you are not going to be effective. This is why teams can hang with Otegon for two or three quarters, only to watch the lead rip open late in the game. This is a fundamental shift in the way football is played. If the Ducks grab a championship, as I think they will, a lot of programs are going to take notice and start playing this way. If they also kick butt, you're going to see the tempo go way up across the board over the next few years.

It also fits in with recent changes to the game. More penalties are given for monster hits, so the old smashmouth ways are over. You're going to find fast, aerobic and athletic teams picking up the wins.

I would not be surprised to see the Ducks hang half a hundred on them. Auburn will score, of course, but the final will probably be around 49 for Oregon and 28-35 for Auburn.

People for get that this Oergon team is the same team that got beat by Boise state last year - Masoli. Cam Newton himself is bigger than the entire Oregon defense lol. The biggest mismatch i see is in the trenches. Oregons lines defense and offense are smaller, can they handle the punishment? We will see.And as soon as Cam runs over one of their linebackers you will not see a DB attempt to meet the same fate.  This will also be a test for Oregons offense speed wise. The SEC prides themselves on speed and big players with speed. I honestly just see a mismatch in this game overall. You can have 9 bums beat the hell out of each other all day. But it's a different story when one of them is going aginst a UFC fighter

i dunno if you watched us play at all this year, but its pretty obvious that we arent the same team that we were last year, were executing much better, not to mention the fact that chip has matured as coach quite a bit, the team is much more focused now because of it. i think oregon's going to win, but i think its going to be a pretty close game either way, well at least till the 4th quarter when we run away with it!

Oregon was a different team with Masoli running the offense last year; Thomas is a real leader and that will be the difference.

Put Auburn in the Pac-10 and you will get the same results Oregon dealt to the conference. I can not say the same if those roles were reversed. Oregon would have had 2 or 3 maybe even 4 loses if they played in the SEC. Don't be shocked if the Ducks get beat by 2 TD's or better , i know i won't. It might very well be a complete embarrassment for the Ducks.

Damn dude, 9 conference games I'm impressed.  Oh nevermind.  I forgot that Auburn played 9 conference games (1 of them being a conference championship game on a neutral field) and 5 of the wins were against teams that are rated in the top 25.  The SEC does not have to go out of conference to find competiton.  They face it every week in their own conference.  As far as uptempo game goes, Auburn also plays an uptempo game when the situation calls for it, so they practice against it every week.  But don't worry because  once USC gets off probation and starts buying them some new players the PAC 10 will start their rise upward again.

Did anyone see Gators new coach being Will. Total suprise to me. At least our coach (Petrino) is locked in for 7 years now. Don't see anybody coming after him. Contract starts out with an 18 mil buyout for first 2 years and they would still be looking at 7.9 mil buyout in 2016. He ain't going nowhere anytime soon.

I didn't see that coming.  Heard he might be a prospect.  We are basically replacing the whole coaching staff at Texas.  There is talk Applewhite, Akina and Giles may go with Will.  It was a good opportunity for him.  There was no buyout clause as well.  We are in for a roller coaster with signing day coming up, hiring an OC, DC, etc., etc.....  It will get figured out.  There is talk that Will's replacement could be Randy Shannon.  Lot's of talk about the OC (maybe Major) and others.  Mack needs to pull the trigger quick with some good people.  Lot's of people think the sky is falling.  It'll get worked out.  We will most likely lose recruits, but it is what it is.  Hookem!
