Wait, they made one cup thicker than the other? There's your channel imbalance right there! Haha.

Nope. The right cup was thicker. So in "theory", that would mean the imbalance was on the right. But the left side was the one that had a lower volume (the thinner pad)

@Bowei, the last album was Oricon. That one?

Go to the previous page :) I posted an anime album of wallpaper pics, one of them had a "can you name them all" picture of many anime girls

Hm. Either way, having the cups be different thicknesses would almost certainly cause issues. The different sides probably sounded different, varying amount of bass or treble balance and things like that. It might cause a bad seal on one side too, which can make a big difference. Maybe one or both of those things are what caused the sound of the channels being imbalanced?

In any case, intentionally making one side thicker than the other is one of the silliest things I've ever heard.

Tried it at my meet today and I was meh...because it had channel imbalance. The guys explained to me since it's single sided, so the right channel got the signal "slower". Then, they explained that as a countermeasure, the enlarged the left cup so that sound travels longer. Enough power to drive them should decrease the imbalance. So they say

The first post about this says it all... audiophile nut hears channel imbalance, audiophile nut formulates nutty hypothesis for cause of imbalance, audiophile nut does nutty mod to headphones... not like graphie believed any of it

Just listened to the ending theme to FFX by (who else) Nobuo Uematsu... EPIC.  I guess most of the rest of the OST would be quite meh though... what to do

I'll just conclude that his Q701 was borked...I don't think the seal was an issue though, except the cups were hard (new I think)

Ending theme was...Suteki da ne? Forgot it already...It's my favourite game of all time

You didn't forget... you got it right.  There's another instrumental ending theme simply titled "Ending Theme" though and that's what I was referring to.

I think I might be having a conversation with a scam artist in PM. Some guy with 6 posts and no feedback responds to my WTB ad and offers me a too-low-to-be-true price. I play along, pretending I'm not suspicious of him, and kindly let him down by saying I'm already talking to somebody else but thanks for the offer and I'll let you know if I change my mind. He responds and offers a lower and even more absurd price. Haha.

@manveru
What did he offer? DT770?

Yup. DT770 for 100 shipped he says. It seems fishy to me, but I'm trying to be polite just in case it actually is a real person. I can't risk it anyway. I'm already talking to another guy who will sell me his pair which is recabled and comes with alternate Jmoney pads.

I recently got some money for helping out my grandma by being the sound guy at a few concerts she organized. In the situation where I had no money I could live with the MDR-V6s which kind of suck, but now that I have an opportunity I can't resist the upgrade bug, haha. Already sold the V6s. I'll almost certainly have to EQ the DT770s as their sound sig in reviews and graphs is not for me at all, but I've tried them before and they sounded quite good. It was a while ago when I was less experienced though. Plus they are super comfortable which is at least as important as sound for me.

I love the singers voice though.
