100+ Head-Fier
Pros: - DC mode and enhance headphone mode make the m17 sound a lot better, extra option to upgrade the external power supply
- Clean sound
- Very powerful, enough to handle all iems and some headphones well, impressive for a DAP
- Excellent dap for bringing to local meets to test stuff
- Smooth OS
- Good MSRP, very good value used
- Exceptional soundstage especially on the enhanced headphone mode
- Many outputs and functions, covers all your portable needs
Cons: - Bulky, not exactly portable
- Might get hot with the enhanced-over ear headphone mode
- Tuning might be too bland for some, not the most musical dap out there (Still a lot better than the old Fiio tuning)
- Leather case design flaw, dap may fall out of the case if you don't have the extra plastic piece from Fiio
I bought an M17 used recently as I wanted to try the powerful, bulky daps. I was looking at DX220 max and M17, and I didn't consider AK stuff as I had a lot of AK daps before and wanted to try...

Pros: + Casual tuning ideal for modern music
+ Excellent sub-bass extension
+ Strong planar bass technicalities
+ Forward mids and crisp highs
+ High clarity and resolution
+ Wide soundstage with accurate imaging
+ Beautiful aesthetics and well made
+ Lightweight and ergonomic
+ Detachable cable and varied accessories
Cons: - Bass lacks dynamic punch
- Slightly lean and dry textures
- Doesn’t fully convey harmonic complexity
- Timbre not entirely organic or natural
- Upper midrange and treble may become fatiguing
- Lacks modular cable support
- Bulky, unattractive storage case

New Head-Fier
Pros: A highly technical, incisive IEM under 300 USD!

“Fairly neutral” “well-tuned for a quadbrid”, bright sound signature!

Well-controlled, detailed bass response!

Clean, vivid, open mids!

Well-extended, airy upper frequencies!

Excellent, precise technical performance!

“Immersive” soundstage!

Excellent fit and comfort!

“True” open-back design!

Durable, build quality!

Industrial, minimalist visual design! (subjective)

Very good quality of accessories!
Cons: “Hard to avoid” driver quirk/s are present, particularly the planar and piezoelectric timbre, which can sound sibilant and “too crispy” to some ears.

A bit hard to drive for an IEM due to its configuration, and will definitely need a fairly powerful source.

“True” open back design exhibits sound leaks which can be a concern when used during commutes.

The included eartips and case could be better for this asking price.

Headphoneus Supremus
Pros: + A somewhat dark and laid-back, yet engaging, U-shaped tuning
+ Nice sub-bass rumble and texture
+ Forward midrange puts vocals on full display
+ Inoffensive and non-fatiguing treble
+ Great choice for midrange enthusiasts or the treble-sensitive
+ Instrument timbre
Cons: - Not a particularly fun or exciting tuning
- Bass quantity might be too much for some
- Treble lacks extension and air
- Not a great all-rounder for me
- May not do enough to stand out in an increasingly competitive price bracket

That's interesting! I did find the treble air and extension lacking for me, but the presence region and mid treble are well represented. I would personally take the Orchestra Lite all day but that's more to do with the mid-bass and warmer tonality.

Good review with stunning photos, as always. Keep it up!

As for this set, I am not sure how can it compete in the 200$-300$ price range based on this review, there's a lot of competition with tough competitors that they are really hard to beat. But maybe there are fans for that?

@avishifi Thank you! 😊 Yes, I agree. It's hard to compete in this price bracket nowadays unless you bring something new or extraordinary to the table. The Cepheus' tuning is more niche for me, but when it hits just right on a certain track or genre, it can really shine.

Pros: - Balanced Armature Configuration: 8 BA drivers per size to provide a detailed and refined sound
- Bass Performance: Exceptional subbass and midbass presence, rare for a BA-only set
- Treble Handling: Crisp and airy, well-extended without excessive harshness
- Technical Capabilities: Strong imaging, resolution, and separation for its price
- Soundstage: Impressively wide and deep, delivering immersive spatial cues
- Comfort & Build: Ergonomic resin shells with metal faceplates ensure durability
- Easy to Drive: 104dB sensitivity means it works well with most sources
Cons: - Stock Cable: Standard KZ silver-plated cable is functional but benefits from an upgrade
- Fit Considerations: Large housing may be less ideal for smaller ears
- Midrange Recession: Male vocals can feel slightly recessed due to the V-shaped tuning
- Scaling with Sources: Benefits from high-quality sources for optimal performance

Pros: - Big and full sound with an ever slight sense of conservatism in the midrange to form an overall easily likeable signature
- Highly resolving especially when paired with a very matching resolving DAP/DAC, but not harsh, nor shril
- Deep and textured bass that's still tightly controlled
- Spacious stage with lots of width, depth and headroom
Cons: None that I can t think of, few years back I would have said that it's pricey, however in the current day 'n age, it seems to be priced accordingly for the kind of sound quality you'd get

Cons: No high res codecs ( only AAC / SBC )
V-shaped sound by default so you need to use the companion App to tame bass and treble
No carry case

Excellent customizable sound at a fantastic Price

- Magnetic leather-like carrying/storage case
- Versatile tuning based on nozzles
