Dunu's budget earbud the alpha 3 naturalness glore
Pros: Natural sound , fit , build , price.
Cons: For me it's a nitpick , need more subbass 😁
Dunu is a old school player in the game as long as I've been in the game . I've been a fan of iem and earbuds since the beginning and dunu had 3 other earbuds before alpha 3, one flagship and the first hybrid earbud with ba and a DD and a regular looking mx500 shell one called ex150 and another one which I forget what it was called . I have bought the alpha one when it came out and it was a marvel in sound and build . So when hearing dunu is coming back with earbud I got super excited , I thought we were getting a flagship but then I heard it's a budget which is still awesome. I bought it right away, no question asked from hifigo . The fits is comfortable and build is excellent being metal shell and cable braiding is great as being nice and tight. Accessories for dunu is always excellent, came with 3 different types of foam.

Sound:

Bass:
The bass for alpha 3 natural being balanced with treble, it's not like a subwoofer but like real tone bass that flows naturally with the flow never to thick and never spilling in the midrange. Midbass is tight and fast. Bass has some air , so close to what I want if we could improve bass response more maybe like 9db more then I'll fall in love better.

Midrange:
The midrange is the star being right in the middle not thin or thick , just right in tone balance and positioning is out of the head just enough to be realistic not not overly done . The micro detail is nice and clear too not thin .

Treble :
The treble is same lane as bass being clean and smooth and not too sparkly. Just right to have some crispyness and airiness it's open like the midrange and balanced Like the midrange. I'd say if the extension was just a tad more it'll be nice .

Soundstage/imaging:

The soundstage is out of the head but not so massive as some others . It's just enough to be realistic and analogue.

Conclusion:

I can recommend the alpha 3 for looking for a relaxed listen not the fun sound I was looking for as always. But hope dunu does more better next round because I know what they can do as I've been buying dunu since the beginning.

Neutral with a cup of bass
Pros: Build , sound , fit
Cons: Picky boy , price.
Aful has been a hype train since the performer 5 in USA but they have been out longer in China before heading to USA. They took all their famous iems and retuned them for USA and they were hit. All of the international model has better bass and treble and cost more as well. For me I'd love to have that tuning for USA but be got use what we are giving. And I loved the tuning of the p5 alot when p8 was announced I went about and bought it. It feels more premium and cable looked better. Same tips and case. Priced around $100 more for a more balanced sound the the little brother. Also I noticed it's source dependent so it can sound different with different quality stuff. Such as tips , cable and sources file will sound different.

Sound:

Bass: comparing bass on p8 to p5 I can say p5 was bigger and had rumble and texture and thickness, while p8 is less thick and more tighter and textured with better speed. It feels lighter and more agile I I wish for more bass with every song. P5 was closer to my desired bass craving but still wanting just a bit more.

Midrange/vocal:
The midrange of p5 versus p8 being the p5 having more midrange and more forward vocals made the p5 better to me because it sounds so natural and real while I say the p8 less midrange and vocals are less forward the p5 making the sound less real and thinner . They can sound mushy sometimes and sometimes clear and thin depending on the recording.

Treble :
The treble on p5 versus p8 being p5 was better extended the p8 having better details on the highs and sound clear while p8 sound super smooth and recessed and mushy. Not so clear like p5.

Soundstage:
The soundstage of p5 versus p8 being they are equal but different because the tuning make different tone and quality. The p5 having more bass And treble makes sound more clear and detailed and opening sounding and the p8 sounds smoother but just as open and thicker sounding as well.

Conclusion:

If I had to choose I'd choose p5 as I gravitate towards that tuning more , it has more excitement and p8 being neutral with bass is more monitor tuned which is ok and all for people who wants neutrality and not enjoying themselves. I've bought mine from hifigo.

Surprised you choose the P5... I find the 8 smoother and richer...but I too always want more bass from the P8, the 5 had a nice sub bass rumble, no doubt! :)

Blessing 3 is a blessing of reference tuning which is surprising
Pros: Clear shell with comfortable fit
Great sound with every genre
Full and clear sound that's always smooth and natural.
Cons: Super picky on source quality such as tips , cable , file quality and genre
I have the blessing 2 like alot of of the reference loving fan out there and the blessing 2 is know as a king in that tuning department for $300 and under and when I heard it I was like wow , so refreshing because my preference is more toward audiophile basshead tuning and I can definitely enjoy other signatures as well . It had treble that was close to the limit for me being too much almost and bass was definitely lean and balanced not full enough to be natural but sound is open definitely. Then couple months later I see information on blessing 3 and it's coming out , I slowly waited for information day by day and when I saw that it had push pull DD technology I had to get it as I have many iems with that tech and know what can be done . Also graph was smoother In treble to but better extension. I bought it when it was released. I got mine from hifigo and waited to receive them . I got them and unboxing is always nice the shell was definitely bigger the the b2 and cable is ok to me . Fit is excellent. First impressions was like huh. Where is the bass and treble was kinda like b2 and mids felt recessed. So I put them away to burn in later for my review. I was trying non electronic music them but didn't test after so I didn't know what beast was hiding inside. Fast forward 2 weeks ago and I've tried other genre and with some burn in for loosening of diaphragm. And I got blown away with the bass Ive heard and the rest of the spectrum. Tried Rick Asthley and I started to dance with never gonna give you up.

Sound :
Bass: the bass is genre and music dependent with different style of music you'll get different presentations of bass quality and quantity. Bass can get close to basshead level when playing bass music and it'll stay fast like it supposed to be and on other genre like vocal music and pop , the bass is full and tight and textured also retaining speed with no distortion. Bass can play in different space too such as being close on some song and farther down in other songs , it can also be lean sounding too of genre has not much bass.

Midrange: I wasn't a fan on first listen as usually I love forward midrange that's fulla and natural but it was playing in deep recessed way with openess and I thought where is my vocals , had to turn up volume some which made treble also extra almost too much . But fast forward recently with burn In and my knowledge that this iem is super picky on source . I understand what happened and it was the recording quality and that wanted you to feel that massive open field of sound and distance and space. Then I tried electronic music and got forward full mids and vocals came out on being so realistic and tonally correct I was like What , how it changed so fast . What that happening I got the picture of the beast abilities. Can be 3D and full or grand and open or close and personal.

Treble : the treble wasnt my cup of tea on first listen and i was disappointed thinking my I bought the blessing 3, the blessing 2 is so similar and this is almost just as bright and thin. But fast forward now and I understand that sound technicality better and what it's capable of . The treble can sound bad only if the sources are bad and then you'd think this isn't worth the money and kz is so much better 😂. But the fact is this can go head to head with big boys from other brand IMHO . Treble can be full natural and oh so textured and always stay clear but never thin and splashy or distorted.

Soundstage/imaging:
First impressions was like same as hearing blessing 2, open , thin and meh. But know I know it's all in the source and this beast will so you everything to max without negativity, unless you brought it up on yourself. This iem isn't for people using low end budget stuff or quality. You'll need at least midrange+ stuff to understand and to soon realize the full magic of b3 . The beast is awaiting, why not come and buy ASAP. 😆

New tech planar DD sound
Pros: Price , sound level , build
Cons: None
Seeaudio is a company which is kinda new but not unknown, they got a lot of fan with there tuning and value . All the iems are all beautiful and they are always improving on each release for every iem in each different price bracket. They also using waifu theme like moondrop which I don't care for but a lot of people do like that theme apparently 😂.I'm old school so I care about technology and sound. My first iem I tried was the yume midnight Collab by see audio and crin and it's a great iem , my second time I got interested in seeaudio release was another Collab this time called rinko which is from zeos which I've been watching on YouTube for a few years now. He's a funny guy and I've bought some of his recommendations. The rinko is using new driver technology of planar and DD which is also being used in high end brand qdc iem called folk s , the price difference is big don't know about sound comparison though as I only have the rinko but am excited to try qdc in future as I've never heard them . People were also doubting that rinko was using planar because of how cheap it was but we got a few people who did teardown and explanation for the driver and how qdc is also using exact driver configuration too. The packaging is nice and small but heavy. Has waifu on front and iem is unique same with excellent build and cable is light and excellent quality, doesnt tangle easily. They are also using unique new foam gel tips which is comfortable and great isolation and sound too.

Sound :
Bass:
The bass on the rinko isn't the biggest baddest bass but can definitely almost hit basshead level depending on recording without being veiled , it's can also sound light and airy and textured depending on track as well. Bass doesn't spill into midrange and stays where it needs to be because DD is being used for bass only . I wouldn't mind more subbass because I love bass .

Midrange:
Mids are the star of the show because of planar tech and it's definitely has naturalness and openess of headphones not iem . It's very 3d and deep as well . It's also very holographic and doesn't have distortion . The vocals have breath too for both male and female and instrument have note weight and tone which you can identify. I can only imagine how awesome this driver combo will be in qdc but at same time I'm loving the tuning of rinko as much as my other expensive iems. These can hang with the big boys.

Treble:
The treble is oh so natural and analogue, it has clarity and openess too with no harshness or artificialness . It's planar treble which is always excellent and they haven't been bad as far as I've heard . I've heard a lot now and it's pretty close to piezo . I don't think anything need to be changed for treble with this tuning of the rinko. It's super natural and can be fun too .

Soundstage/imaging
The soundstage is out of the head with imaging that can be big or close depending on the song and the depth width height are all excellent and inner micro detail is clear as a bell and macro details are excellent as well ..

Conclusion:
At $100 the rinko is an easy recommendation from me seeing it is using driver which is also used in expensive qdc and sound tuning is the one I love as well. It's so easy to get lost in the music that it's hard to concentrate and write or do anything else. Just listen and enjoy and get lost peeps 😁.
I've added pictures of the teardown as well.

I have bought mine from hifigo.

Analogue sound revolutionized
Pros: Sound , cable , build, accessories, looks, fit
Cons: None
Dunu top sound has been in the game as long as Ive been and have made many excellent iems throughout the years , I noticed them and bought my first iem from them which was dn1000 which blew my mind for sound , it's an audiophile basshead iem with massive soundstage, then I bought dn2000 which was more balanced and massive soundstage as well and then I bought the dn2000j which is an akg k3003 killer for cheap and it's the most balanced and extended one at that time. I have been a fan since the beginning but couldn't buy everything that's been released but I've tried what I can afford. I haven't heard the sa6 og or ultra but when I saw the mkii I had to buy it as the shell color was attracting me and I had enough for it. The packaging is the usual fully loaded dunu style with a lot of accessories and great build. The shell is resin and stabilized wood in sexy orange color, the fit is excellent like semi custom and cable is thick and modular. I have instantly fallen in love with everything about it and haven't tried the switch or special tips and have been enjoying it just the way it is . The review will be in 2 part , one switch off and other switch on .

Sound :
Bass:
(Switch off) the bass is balanced as both subbass and midbass are equally excellent and speed of the bass as well and the layering of the bass is also excellent as you can here the deep detailed tones and texture , bass has reverb and is deep.
(Switch on) the subbass is increased by 3db and mid range as well bringing the mids forward to the perfect position , I thought it was already excellent and with switch on bass and mids become endgame. Layering doesn't change neither imaging, both are top notch and highly clear and open and detailed . The sonion ba woofer never ceases to amaze you with dynamic level bass and ba level speed .
Midrange:
(Switch off)The midrange is the second star of the show with bass following second , the mids are slightly in the distance but not recessed only lacking , it's very holographic and layered and has lots of micro detail and is super clean , it's balanced with upper mids and never shouty or sibilant , it has great 3d imaging and speed too while being natural.
(Switch on)
The midrange increase forwardness and fullness , the vocals improve fullness and becomes more natural and real and makes you in awe, you can feel the breath of singer and tone of the voice too, you can tell the position the singer is singing from and how far or how close. They are to you the quietest to the loudest passage is easily heard and felt .
Treble:
(Switch off)Treble is clear and extended and balanced with no peaks, it has smoothness and realism to the tone with switch off and doesn't sound thin . Its is also holographic and layered just like the rest of the sound . No ba timber is heard in the tuning.
(Switch on) treble increase fullness and natural tones while having same extension and magical layer . I also felt like volume was increased by 3db.

Conclusion:dunu has definitely came a long way since the trident and ever different releases came with improvement in tuning , technology improvement, value improvement and looks improvement. Sa6mkii should be selling like hot cakes with the sound tuning it has and I think should be considered endgame material easily . From packaging, to build , to sound and pricing . Everything is perfect

Qoa gimlet: buttery smoothness
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
Qoa is a sister brand of kinera which has been in the chifi game for a while now and the have some great iems , for qoa asa know as queen of audio they produce sexy looking and sounding iems . I have with me the gimlet which is full ceramic housing and deep green color , it's heavy and when on the ears it'll feel like nothing, cable is lightweight and beautiful as well. The packaging is beautiful and artistic.

Sound:
Bass:
Bass is big and deep and slightly loose giving it a natural feel and texture . Midbass isn't as tight as the tightest DD but that's ok because it's wonderful sounding still and the bass doesn't bleed or get slow .

Midrange:
The midrange is the star of the show being forward, rich , creamy, detailed and full . No harshness, all real vocal with breath to feel and textures for days . It's great on all genre and is so smooth .

Treble:
The treble is balanced like the bass and never bleeding into midrange, it just floats In the air with natural tone and timbre. Not recessed just correct and smooth and buttery to describe the whole sound.

Soundstage/imaging
The sound soundstage is average and forward and imaging depends on song . The sound feels like an analogue sounding speaker so smooth an buttery that you don't want to take them out of the ears but just chill and relax to the music .

AFUL Acoustics Performer 5: a innovation in iem
Pros: Sound
Build
Price
Cons: Non
Aful Introduction:Aful Acoustics has always targeted a strong and experienced acoustic R&D Team. They have adhered to the simple concept of "Only Real Progress in Technology can bring Tangible benefits to the Consumer". Four Years Ago, AFUL Acoustics was founded to bring a change to the HiFi Audio industry with class-leading IEMs and Headphones at pocket-friendly prices. After painstaking research by the team for over two years, Aful Acoustics matured the basic technology in 2020. Ever since then they have got several different technologies such as EnvisionTEC Medical-Grade 3D Printed Acoustic Tube Structure, 3D Air-Pressure Balanced Relief Technology, etc. Aful Acoustics has always targeted innovative Acoustic Technologies to produce crisp, high-resolution sound quality with IEMs that outperform the competition by a huge margin. We have always aimed to design quality products that deliver high-end performance while coming at a mid-range price tag.

2. Product Background:Currently, Multi-driver hybrid IEMs are the preferred technical solution for achieving the performance of high-end IEMs. Enthusiasts look for “No Shortcomings” in high-end pairs in all aspects of their preferred sound signature, a multi-driver IEM is easy to tune in that manner with trusted technological innovations. Aiming at top-quality sound performance, a pair has to be designed professionally with ultra-low distortion, proper phase-matching, amplitude-frequency characteristics, top, and lower end extensions, etc. In order to achieve such high-quality sound performance with their products, Aful Acoustics has done a deep R&D and designed some innovative technologies for the upcoming products. With their newly-developed patented technologies, Aful Acoustics has introduced their debutant product, the Performer 5.

3. Product Highlights:performer 5 is designed with high-quality premium features. The pair is designed with a five-driver hybrid configuration housing a dynamic driver and 4 balanced armature drivers. Here are the highlighted features of Performer 5:EnvisionTEC High-Precision 3D Printed Acoustic Cavity Structure:After spending three years of in-depth acoustic research and design and electrical design to create an acoustic structure specially designed for high-end IEMs, Aful Acoustics has introduced EnvisionTEC medical-grade 3D printing technology with a high-quality 3D printer specially imported from Germany. Compared to existing premium in-ear monitors, the physical 3D acoustic structure from the EnvisionTEC technology has a precisely matched structure. It houses a 60mm ultra-long and ultra-thin bass tube with a 30mm mid-bass tube promising powerful, deep-hitting bass response and excellent phase connection with the other frequencies. The above-mentioned 3D printed acoustic structure is not possible with any ordinary 3D printer or hand-molding techniques. With proper machinery, we have achieved accurate phase-matching.

High-Damping Air-Pressure Balance System:performer 5 is designed with a high-damping air pressure balance system that releases the air pressure inside the ear canal when the pair is worn. It effectively reduces the pressure on the eardrum ensuring a comfortable fit for the users and also improves the bass texture at the same time.

RLC Network Frequency Division Correction Technology:Usual multi-driver IEMs in the market use standard RC frequency division circuits. Although they perform quite well, they are prone to phase interferences and are usually unable to solve the abnormal frequency response of the pronounced frequency region. To counter this, Aful Acoustics hasdeveloped a new RLC network frequency division technology. It not only allows multiple units to have accurate frequency division but also corrects the non-ideal frequency response of certain frequency bands. For example, Tweeters which are usually adjusted for high-frequency regions are prone to have peaks. With the new RLC network frequency division technology, this non-ideal factor is removed and we have achieved a realistic high-resolution sound quality.

4. Main Characteristics:performer 5 is a debuting product for Aful Acoustics. It has been designed with technological innovations bringing you high-end sound performance at an affordable price tag. The pair has been crafted to match the requirements of most music enthusiasts and brings an impressive performance. The frequency response curve of the Performer 5 is very smooth and there is no trace of distortion in any frequency band. You will be surprised by the clarity and performance of the Performer 5 compared to other such hybrid IEMs that are priced way higher than the set.

5. Main Specifications:Driver Count: Five drivers on each side. Driver Configuration: 1DD+4BA. Impedance: 35Ω. Sensitvitiy: 110dB@1kHz. Frequency Response Range: 5Hz-35kHz. Passive Noise Reduction: 26dB. Connectors: 0.78mm 2-pin. Termination: 3.5mm

The Aful Acoustic performer 5 has 8 patent in technology used inside the performer 5 and the sound output that is coming out of it is easily in the $400+ range. The iem scale so easily and sounds different with different setup , so I can say it'll depend all on the source quality for the sound. The look is sexy and reminds me of the monarch from the audio. It was an Iem I want but can't buy because of price 😅.

Sound:

Treble: the treble is the least unique part being transparent and open with lower treble being smooth but detailed. I haven't heard any distortion and it always sounds natural.

Midrange: the midrange is the star of the show followed by the bass , it is organic and natural and open and detailed not missing anything and it's always beautiful to listen to everything and everytime. Vocals have weight and breath , instrument have texture, and space. Everything stays clear and intact with speed as well.

Bass: the second star of the show being close to basshead but not quite there. Itll depend on recording but if it has bass you'll get wobble the midbass is light but not so much that it'll be thin. Bass is fast too and clean. It has excellent texture as well.

Soundstage: the soundstage is also nice and open always and can get intimate as well depending on recording. But most of the time it's open an holographic and organic. It's always beautiful to listen to.

Build : the fit is like custom iem and size is on the small side not huge like some iems. The shell is used to the maximum for top sound in the size. Faceplate is sexy

Conclusion: the Aful Performer 5 is a killer set for the cheap price of $219 and sound quality will definitely suit a lot of people easily.

Love the P5. Listening on my desktop the other night with a slight bass boost in the EQ and it was a great experience.

I think it's the imaging and the layering and depth of soundstage, also the way the mids just seem to show a bunch of dynamics up through the treble...I dont know what the patents or the circuit boards are doing, but with a little bass EQ, the P5 really opens up. It's very dynamic with that bass slam kicking....I'm using my Schiit Lokius for EQ duties, :)

I like to thank effects audio for sending me the axiom for review and wanting my honest opinion of this iem. I was excited when I heard an iem with titanium housing, big DD with LCP and magnesium dome. And the company describing the iem to be reference with bass , which is something I always looking for iem new gears. This iem include a special eartips called epro which is one of my favorites tips to use because how soft it is and how wide it is it helps with texture of sound without changing it negatively.

Effects audio was king enough to send me a pair of new cable called vogue series maestro which is an $99 litz copper cable and an upgrade to the old aeries cable. It's much softer cable which I was looking for.

Sound:

Bass:
The bass on the axiom can sound very powerful and deep to tight and controlled all depending on the genre of music as well as the quality of sources. But one thing it definitely doesn't bleed to the mid range so we are good in the aspect. Bass is fast as well as very textured.

Midrange:

Midrange is open and three dimensional , it can sound very close to very far away depending on the recording. It's never veiled or recessed . It's natural and smooth

Treble:
Treble is extremely cheap and sparkly. Some times can get sparkly. It's I clean and open and speed it fast and not slow.

Soundstage and imaging:

Soundstage and imaging is excellent on this iem all are above average and close to endgame level .

Conclusion:
I'm happy that I was part on the tour to review this beautiful iem which definitely impressed me . I can't say anything negative accept the price and lack of cable but besides that. The rest are excellent.

Earsonics Onyx: analogue beauty
Pros: Sound is analogue: bass deep , big powerful and textured , mids are smooth and weighty without being veiled.. treble smooth and clear . Big soundstage. Build like a tank and high value altogether.
Cons: None

GENESIS

The Onyx concept was born during confinement.
The team of enthusiasts in charge of its development wondered what could be the earphone that would best meet the current demands of the audiophile public.
What started out as a concept turned into a real project.
The ONYX was thus born.

PROJECT

The exclusive team of enthusiasts, the heart of the ONYX project, designed it based on the knowledge and know-how used in the Earsonics laboratories.
After several months of work, the first plans for the ONYX were born and with them the beginnings of an exceptional earphone.
To develop the ONYX, the use of the best materials was the leitmotif of the team.

DESIGN

A MATTER OF THE HEART

When developing it, the engineering team used the best.
Thus, the ONYX is based, among other things, on the latest 3D acrylic core technology used for the Grace Platinum, Earsonics flagship.

The specific inclination of the ONYX body and cannula is the result of many years of research guaranteeing a comfortable fit and better insulation.

The use of "2 pins" is still today the safest and most efficient method for connecting your in-ear headphones to their cable.

Entirely handcrafted in our laboratories, the ONYX is designed to offer the highest level of quality at an unbeatable price in this range of high-fidelity headphones.
This result underlines the commitment of the engineers on this project to satisfy the most demanding audiophiles.

ACCESSORIES
IN THE BOX
ONYX with is 4C-HR cable
1 Cleaning Tool.
2 pairs of comply tips of different sizes.
2 pairs of silicon monoflange tips of different sizes.
2 pairs of silicon bi-flange tips of different sizes.
1 carrying case made from EarSonics.
1 User manual.

I have been interested in earsonics since the beginning , when I started it was expensive for me to even spend $100 or so but slowly I kept increasing my limit years by ears as well as trying different tuning to find my favorite type of sound signature which is definitely analogue and bass forward with mid foward and big soundstage. I wanted to hear the grace platinum and contacted earsonics but they were excited for a secret release of a new iem which I was also interested.so I waited for it. When I got It I was blow away with the package and the presentation. Then I saw the iem which is gorgeous and I pick it up and was like woohoo the weight. It's almost as heavy as the ikko oh10.cable is nice and simple , tips were ok but I changed it out to my favorite spring tips by moondrop.

Sound:

Bass : the bass is big and bold and hits hard . Even though it's big it doesn't bleed into the midrange and the bass is also very textured and you can feel the air on some of the bass hit.bass speed is above average so it's not slow and laggy and not hyper speed sounding artificial .

Mids :
Perfect harmony the vocals are so good I can cry , they are rendered so realistically you'll feel all the nuance in the breath of the singer being male or female.the instrument also have weight to them and speed to not becoming busy always clear and realistically rendered. Lol .....I was writing the review as I do listening to music but because how fluid and beautiful the audio is rendered I was just enjoying the musix for 15min 😅.

Treble :

The treble is naturally extended and is clear with no artificial peaks or glare but is presented in a real way with weight and tone not like some B's which sounds thin.

Fit:

For me the fit and angle of the onyx is excellent like I have a custom moulded iem for my ears and with my favorite spring tips it's a winner in every way. The weight of the iem isn't felt because of how secure it is in my ears and I get zero ear fatigue or pain because the shell is smooth and curvy . For sound I 100% agree the a good fit is needed to enjoy these beauty to the maximum.

Concussion:

This is my first time hearing earsonics beautiful tuning and hopefully not my last because I have been truly enjoying every moment of every album with the onyx as the definitely hang with top tier without the top tier price and I hope to see more magic for this awesome company.

It also depends what sound you are after? Meaning the single ended included silver gets you a more middle of the road balanced sound. The 4.4mm copper cables give you more low end texture and warmth. You can literally play with the presentation after burn-in. Meaning the ONYX actually (while mostly slightly-darker) can fully change to how it represents the music. You can make it slightly brighter up top with a 4.4mm balanced silver cable, or remove that treble engagement to focus on a more L shape tone depending on source and/or cable!

It's by far the best value IEM (and biggest sounding) in its price bracket, if your into the ONYX style of playback. Not even a question about that. That is what it was designed to be; a factory direct value.

@Cecala
  • First of all: I think that the included 3.5mm silver stock cable is already pretty good itself!
  • Imo single ended vs balanced mainly depends on the dap that you're using. I've had daps where balanced made a big difference. On my current daps the differences are very subtle though.
  • I agree with @Redcarmoose that the HanSound Zen (which I also have here) sounds very good with ONYX.
  • The best cable synergy that I've heard so far can be checked over here in the ONYX thread.
Cheers and imho you can believe the hype this time! :)

I have a number of 4.4bal and 2.5bal cables that I would not hesitate to put into the rotation on the ONYX. The Eletech Socrates is a copper/warm cable, so that one might be a bit too much, but I have an Effect Audio Ares II, which while copper as well, would be a good fit for the ONYX.

As @Kerouac stated, the included cable is a very fine cable. Any additional for balanced operation would be the icing on the cake. We all like icing, at least I do. :sunglasses:

Kz zex : kz's first magnetostatic driver hybrid iem
Pros: Bass
Treble
Mids
Soundstage
Build
Efficiency
Build
Cable
When I heard kz will have magnetostatic driver hybrid iem I got excited , I waited patiently for the beautiful pink color which took a while to come out probably in demand the most . The when I saw the right moment I ordered it from here : https://kz-audio.com/kz-zex.html. it came in a week and when I got it I opened it asap and took pictures and listen to it. Accessories are minimum which is what I like and build quality is great , tips are ok medium density and efficiency is good too.

Sound:

Bass: the bass on the composite DD is deep and flexible with tight midbass and great texture , I don't hear any subbbass roll-off so that's nice and bass doesn't bleed into midrange. Bass quantity will depend on the recording , can be balanced one time and powerfully big the next.

Midrange: the midrange is flat and even with both male and female vocal on same level , the mids are open and clear , can also be intimate depending on song , can be recessed almost depending on song too.instruments have weight and texture and can be felt.

Treble : the treble is extended and crispy , it has weight and texture too . Treble can sound open and near depending on song as well and smooth or crispy depending on song too . I haven't found it peaky yet even on bad recording.

Conclusion: kz has been coming out with awesome releases lately and also listening to the community to improve on any problems that people have with there products if any . The zex is one example of great value and sound on a budget with breaking the bank

Etymotic evo , the successor to the er4's
Pros: Isolation
Bass
Details
Mids
Imaging
Fit
Build
Cons: Not a big con but treble slightly smoother then er4's . Cable gets tangled easily , deep fit is painful 😅
I'm was lucky to be part of the etymotic USA tour and was excited to try a multi ba unit from etymotic. I have a few etymotic in my collection (ER4B, ER4SR,ER4XR,ER2SE,ER2XR,ER6,MK5,ETYKID3).I was excited because I had a feeling it'll be er4 series upgrade with better bass and soundstage.also excited for the new shape as well as build being stainless steel housing and cable being linum bax which I had long ago. So I received them 2 weeks ago and burned them a while and they improved from stock sound.after this review I need to send it off the the last reviewer but I definitely wanted to keep it.

Build:
New shape for better fit also using stainless steel housing and new connection called t2 which is by estron linum and cable is the famous bax . The housing feels like a tank which is very heavy and for noozle it is long like the other ety and also small bore opening like usual.

Cons:
The fit might be a con for some with deep fitting and the cable which likes to tangles easily. Besides these two con its very good.

Sound:
Bass:
Subbass is felt and us deep with excellent texture and midbass is tight and fast , they don't bleed into the mids and become slow thanks to the dual bass ba.the clarity is also better then the er4 dew to this .

Mids:
Foward and clear with natural tone and texture , there isn't any harshness and microdetail are clearly heard. The mids have nice amount of depth and width .also vocals has weight and breadth .

Treble :
It is the only slight negative because it's dark and smooth with not harshness. Wish it can be brought out just a tad bit more for perfection.

Soundstage:
The soundstage is a plus versus the er4 series as it is more wider and deeper as well as more taller and imaging also better . The layers are well separated . It doesn't sound congested every and background is dark and clean.no thinness whatsoever.

Conclusion:
The long awaited etymotic is here to replace the er4 , it's more comfortable shape and build is top notch with newer tech cable and multi ba for better sound with deeper bass and better soundstage versus it's siblings.

Blon bl01 , a different sound from blon house sound.
Pros: Fit , build , size
Cons: Cable , tips
Bl01 is the latest blon iem from blon and it claim to have biocellulose driver which I love and it looks like a different shape and claim better fitment. Price is the cheapest of all blon all smallest blon as well. The con is tips and cable are bad with all blon so you must switch them out. I'm using upgrade cable from amazon and acoustune aet08 tips for this review.
I bought them here:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100...m=5261.ProductManageOnline.0.0.3c504edfquM6Ol

Sound :
Bass : fast and light bass with decent texture which doesn't sound or feels as other biocellulose driver iems I have and had. Before burn in it was definitely same as what biocellulose should be , texture rich and deep bass.

Midrange: it is clear and open with excellent details depth and height and width . Before burn in it was definitely thicker but still clear.

Treble : it sparkly and extended as biocellulose should be . It is fast like titanium diaphragm too and airy as well . Before burn in it had more weight to it but not it lighter and more agile .

Conclusion : if you are looking for a clear cheap iem you should look into the blon bl01.

Kz dq6 , ohhhh finally a nice sounding kz 😁
Pros: Sound, fit , price
Cons: None
Kz has been around for a while producing a new iem like every month for the budget friendly people. Some were very good sounsing back then especially the single dynamic driver iems , then they started to produce bad sounding iem when the all were v shaped sound with no resolution at all . Then recently they announced a triple dynamic driver iem and I was interested because I do love dynamic driver. I got it and they don't found like trash. Fit is great , accessories bare minimum as always. Build seems good too. I bought them here:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100...m=5261.ProductManageOnline.0.0.136c4edfOgMorR

Sound :
Bass: light and fast with excellent texture not that thick slow old bass that they used to have back in the days. It is also detailed and deep. Before burn in it has more weight with same speed.

Midrange: clear as a whistle and open with decent with an good height and depth , it has a tone that is more leaning towards bright but not harsh . Before burn in it was brighter and more digital sounding.

Treble : clear and extended , with open and distance not a thin treble . Before burn in in was kinda harsh and thinner.

Conclusion: kz has done it finally and I hope they get better. I'll keep my eyes on them .

Blon t3 , transparent and open
Pros: Sound and build
Cons: Not much to complain about
Blon has many iems , and this was one new iem they released claiming to have 11mm carbon driver. Accessories are bare minimum including a little bad with 3 pair of different tips that are soft.

The tips I feel does hinder the sound making is too warm and thick. I'm using acoustune aet08 tips for my review. I bought them here :
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100...m=5261.ProductManageOnline.0.0.3c504edfquM6Ol

Sound :
Bass : the is deep and control with speed and texture . At the beginning it was massive and thick but still fast . I gave it 10 hrs of hardcore burn in with full blast plus 15 extra db of ore in neutron music player.

Midrange : is transparent and 3D with wide and deep presentation. It sounds just right with no thin weight. Before burn in it was thick and almost veiled sounding.

Treble : smooth and transparent and clear without any peaks. Before burn in it was slightly peaky and not clean sounding.

Conclusion: for the price it's worth it and build it top notch . Don't forget to give it heavy duty burn in and you'll be rewarded.

V-Moda Crossfade M100 Master
Pros: Build , sound , warranty
Cons: Not really a big con , needs some 6db rise in
20 to 40 hertz bass
The vmoda crossfade m100 master :

The m100 master are over ear headphone with foldable design made of all metal parts and are hires certified. They were sent to me as a review program from vmoda and these are my thoughts on them as a review .

The build:
All metal with no plastic parts that I can see and included are 2 cable . Only for audio with mic and another orange one with two wire that looks like and attachment for the boom mic I think 🤔. The box also was nice and was closed with a nice string that was needed to be cut to open . The headphone came in a strong hardshell case with is awesome and had a keychain to attach to your pocket or backpack.

The sound:

Bass: the bass is flat with roll off on subbass but they are textured and clean . It is tight and clear and i can hear great bass texture . It is nice and refreshing but I sometimes crave abit more of the subbass do I can enjoy all the genre more . If they can have like 6 more db in 20 to 40 hertz then it'll be perfect.

Midrange: flat and warm is the midrange with breath in the vocals , they have nice balance of clarity and warmth for instrument and vocals and also the presentation is 3D . Very good at it and I would want to change that aspect. You can definitely feel the singers breath tickling your ears😁.

Treble: flat and smooth is the treble with nice weight without being bright and brittle which is something I wouldn't want to hear because it'll cause ear fatigue. The treble is clear as well with great timber on cymbal . Also the presentation is 3D .

Soundstage: the soundstage is about just right out of the head without being to massive and the presentation of imaging is spacious. Height is right on top of the head .

The driver are nice and fast , not the fastest but above average which helps with keeping the music clean without becoming congest which isn't good for enjoying music.

Conclusion: this is my first time hearing vmoda crossfade master m100 and I'm liking the direction vmoda is going from what they made when they started . They comfort is good , can get kinda warm but not unbearable. Sound is great and build is top notch. I can't wait to try more in the future 🤠.

@mochill thanks for the review!

You can definitely feel the singers breath tickling your ears

Do you mean the vocals sounds a bit thin/breathy/airy? I generally associate warmth in the midrange with a slightly more full-bodied vocal presentation, which I prefer... But I can't stand vocals that are overly breathy sounding as this seems to have a digital, synthetic feel to me

Helm audio amp AAAmp db12
Pros: Size , power , feature, price
Cons: None.
I would love to thank helm audio for letting me review the db12 aaamp for headfi as well as Ari benjamin morguelan on Facebook. This is my first review of a source so please be nice if it's not that great.

The amp came In a nice size box in which it contained the amp as well as a charging cable and a nice pouch to keep everything inside . The. Amp is connected to wires , one for input of headphone and other side for inputting sources that have 3.5mm jack on them. On the side on the unit , we have charging port and on the other side we have the power on for the amp which amplify the volume by 12db which is roughly 3 times the output from my phone. It's pretty mind-blowing for me because seeing the size I wouldn't expect it to be as powerful as it is. Cool feature also include is the ability to use the amp as an extension cable .this definitely adds some omph to the sound with all the stuff I've tried.

Sound:
Bass:flat and clean and powerful is the bass and this is with amp enabled and without bass boost feature enabled. With the bass boost feature enabled, you'll get a 6db of subbass boost which is powerful and undistorted. I definitely love it but it can be too much of a guilty pleasure.

Midrange: also clean and flat with natural tone and timber with vocals and instrument. Imaging is spacious and big and clarity is high with black background. On hiss is heard even with the most sensitive iems.

Treble: clean , clear and extended with natural tone and timber . Excellent it is and it is very clean and clear . No artificialness to the treble and no thiness to the sound at all.

Conclusion:
At $199 I think this is an excellent value of a amplifier which is powerful and clean and also can be using without it being on as well . Very powerful and very surprising for me .

Kbear Stellar
Pros: Price , soundstage , midrange
Cons: None
I would love to thank wendy li and keephifi for sending me the stellar to review. I am a big fan of iems/earbuds , I have a big collection of both . Reasons I love ear is for the openess and soundstage as well as being aware of my surroundings.

Package was a plastic Ziploc bag with only one pair of foam , no complain from me on that .
Build quality is the mx500 style shell which is the usual housing used for many earbuds these day. Cable is a thin non sticky black cable with a straight 3.5mm jack.

Sound :
Bass: flat subbass with a slighty enhanced midbass giving the music some kick. It can use more subbass but I'm not complaining because I can enjoy what's there.there us some nice texture with the bass too.

Mids: the star of the show , being foward and note being balanced. They are not thing or thick. Vocals are inside your head and clear and not hazy. Instrument sounds ok with the bite or texture I crave.

Treble: is smooth like butter , it's not harsh or thin but nice and warm. It's not super detailed but not missing anything in the treble frequency.

Soundstage: equal depth , height and width. Not it's strong suit .

Conclusion: for being a budget ear from kbear it's an awesome first one sound very good for the price of a bag of chips. I'm excited to see what else awesome earbud they might bring to the earbud community in the future.

Ufo ear ufo-112
Pros: Digital clarity , imaging
Cons: Bright , thin note weight , price
I would love to thank ufoear for sending me the ufo-112 for review . I got them long ago back when they were released but haven't gotten to reviewing these.

Build :
Plastic build quality with unique ufo shoes housing and design. It's 3d printed and doesn't weigh anything in the ear and the size is small.
Cable is a 4 core spc and the ear mold is ok.

Sound :
Bass: flat bass with subbass and midbass being even , speed is fast and micro detail is apparent . Texture of bass is high.

Mids : the midrange is foward and weight of note is thin and clear , not harsh unless the volume is high. It has 3dness and is open sounding.

Treble : crispy and bright , open and fast . Can be harsh if volume is high . Treble weight is thin and clear.

Soundstage:
Deep and wide and tall all at once with the right genre such as AGC music and OST. Other are not to massive feeling and can get harsh and congested.

Conclusion:

This iem can be amazing listen at low volume with the right music . Don't buy it if you aren't into those genre of music and definitely not at the $360 .

Oeaudio tita ba1ti
Pros: Natural , smooth , detailed , organic , cable
Cons: Depends on the damper.
I would love to thank Oeaudio for sending me the tita ba1ti for review . I was interested in hearing sonion ba driver as my gut feeling told me that they'll be a much better sounding ba versus the usual Knowles ba we all are accustomed to. Once I saw this tita ba1ti and that it had a sonion ba I quickly jumped on to contacting oeauduo to get a review unit. Plus I love titanium housing and this as well 8s the first ba iem to incorporate titanium that I saw as well as different material damper to change sound tone .

Build :
Top notch build for this iem as it's made from titanium and also has removable cables as well.the cable is a special copper that is in a balanced configuration as in that the right cable isn't touching the left one and both side is shielded from one another.

Sound:
Stainless steel damper(silver :most open)
Bass: bass Is thick and dark and midbass with this damper is a tad to much that it'll bleed in the mids.
Mids: very thick and has a slight veil from the bass bleed from bright open back.
Treble :the most subbed treble , not enough sparkle heard.
Copper:frowning2:copper color and less open)
Bass : tighter and cleaner then the stainless steel damper . Speed is there and not slow like the stainless steel damper.
Mids: has a balanced tonal midrange which isn't thick or thin. Has a great weight to the vocals and texture is soso.
Treble : heard and has good amount of sparkle. Clear enough and not subbed like the stainless steel damper.
Aluminum:frowning2:black fully closed )
Bass:the flattest bass of all the damper , barely felt but what's there is tight.
Mids : cleanest of the bunch with still warmth available and clarity which is heard .
Treble : brightest one but not harsh at all, much better then the rest damper .
Soundstage: (all damper):
The soundstage remains same with all the damper , which it is wider then deep . Height is also not tall just about right.

Conclusion:

I am very glad that I was able to try out a sonion ba iem that has titanium housing and I would love to thank Oeaudio for the chance to review the tita ba1ti.

The kbear ks2 : budget bassy fun
Pros: Depth of sound , mid 3dness , price , fit
Cons: None
I would love to thank wendy li and tri official for the change to review the kbear ks2 budget bassy fun iem . I love to listen to alot of electronic music as well and other genre sometimes such as rap and rock and other cultures music. The ks2 is a budget friendly iem and a very natural one at that too.

Build: the build is high quality plastic housing that feels light and sturdy. The shape of the housing fit my ear perfectly and the size is also perfect for me ears as well. The cable a tight weaved 4 core cable which is light and excellent for the iem , negative is the earhook shape which is like a 270 degree curve.

Sound :

Bass:

Powerful and deep with a tight midbass , it doesn't interfere with the midrange and the texture is medium level in quantity. Speed is also medium level , not the fastest or the slowest I've heard and also it has cleaness to it.

Midrange:

The midrange is right inside the head and the note weight isn't thick or thin but right in the middle. The clarity is medium level not masked or veiled at all . The presentation is 3d with more depth then width.also height is great.

Treble:

The treble is clear with a slight thin note weight , it's not bothersome or too bright but it add some pazzaz to the sound. Detail of treble is medium level with some peaks.

Soundstage:

Soundstage is another great aspect of the ks2 , with depth bright deep and as well as height reaching a nice height. Width is good not the widest I've heard but the compressed either .imaging is great as well.

Conclusion'
Ks2 is a fun budget bassy iem that will satisfy people who are looking for gaming iem as well we'll and iem that has great soundstage for the cheap low price.
