NE5532/NE5534 manufacturers
Given that each company supposedly uses their own production mask for the circuit, there should be subtle (or maybe even not-so-subtle) differences in part quality and thus in sound. Did anyone do a comparison? The makers I found are TI, Philips, Fairchild and ON.- till

RME ADI-2
Any news on the RME ADI-2 DAC/ADC? At least in Europe, its price is half that of the Benchmark DAC1. It doesn't have good looks, and the I/O options seem not to be as versatile, but OTOH the price is very appealing. On some German boards, there are reviews that contain huge praise for the ADI-2...- till

Source for Sony MDR-V6 that ships to Europe?
Hi there, did anybody order a Sony MDR-V6 (preferably via credit card) for a good prize and had it shipped to Europe? Can anybody recommend a website with a good reputation? Thanks, Till- till

stepped attenuators for portable amps
As one might imagine, space requirements are an issue. Are there any reasonably priced stepped attenuators on the market with a height of about 25 mm or less? I have come across a model that has a height of only only 9.8 mm, width is 30 mm (part number 327-686 at http://rswww.com /...- till

Current draw of a Szekeres
I have built a direct-coupled Szekeres, no gain stage. The PS gives 24 V DC, this is split by a TLE2426, which is followed by a BUF634 (DIP version). According to the datasheet, the BUF634 can give a 250 mA output surrent. Is that sufficient for the Szekeres? I'm asking because after running...- till

Sony Discman remote control models and compatibility
I am having a Sony D-E555 Discman shipped to me, but it does not come with a remote control, so I need a replacement. That made me wonder whether the situation is like with the Sharp portable MD players (some remote controls are compatible with several players). With my Sharp 722 PMDP, I'm using...- till

How much ripple is acceptable? (Wallwart AC adapter)
I am planning to purchase a wallwart AC adapter from a distributor in Europe, preferably with a regulated 24 V DC output, 230 V AC input. Elpac is available only via Digikey, and most models don't take 230 V, including WM080, for which I have seen many recommendations here. Besides, they are...- till

potentiometer changes sound?
I have a problem with two different amps (a CMoy and a CHA47). They have totally different potentiometers, the only thing they have in common is a Meier bass-enhanced natural crossfeed. With the pot turned to low volume, the sound is very distant and dark. It changes with volume, becoming bright...- till

DC offset on one channel (CHA47)
I just built a CHA47, just a basic circuit with crossfeed, no volume control yet. Power is supplied by one 9 V battery, the rails are split by a TLE2426 and a BUF634. The power supply splits the voltage quite evenly, like -4.13 V vs. 4.17 V. There is no sound on one channel and without a source...- till

Optimizing CMoy battery usage
I would like to increase my CMoy's battery life while I'm waiting for parts for my next amp. Currently, it is set up like this:Levallois design with Meier crossfeed, see http://headwize2.powerpill.org/proje...2a_add_prj.htm (near the bottom of the page) 2 x OPA2132, gain of 4, dual 20k linear...- till

digital potentiometers
I am thinking of using a digital potentiometer in my next amp because the noise, channel imbalance and/or sheer size of most analog pots is getting on my nerves. Most digital pots require a certain voltage to operate and thus need their own electrical system, negating any space saved by ditching...- till

CMOY volume trouble
Hi all, as my first project, I just assembled a CMOY according to Tangent´s excellent tutorial and the original CMOY article on Headwize, it is a Levallois variant with Meier crossfeed. The problem is that I can only get it to work at full volume or at a ridiculously low volume. The...- till
