++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum
Please recommend some sub $400 cans which (in order of importance): 1. Are very comfortable (my head is roughly average size, but I think my ears may be taller than average). I find my hd580s and 590s reasonably comfortable, but I grabbed some 448s on sale recently ($50) and I can't stand...- momerath

phonak pfe 4-conductor->3-conductor adapter?
Sorry if this has been asked; the things I searched for (here and on google) didn't turn up anything useful. I got the phonak's w/ mic assuming that my nokia n800 would be wired the same way as the iphone. It isn't; in fact I can't plug the jack in all the way or it makes a pulsing noise in...- momerath

ER4 cable (APS?), new Phonaks, or?
Doh! I'm really sorry, G3n0c|d3. I somehow missed out on the fact that you can order from that site. I guess it's the way the initial product page looks like a standard oem product page, with "find out more" links; between that and the "find dealer" link, I had come to a mistaken conclusion...- momerath

ER4 cable (APS?), new Phonaks, or?
Was that meant to be helpful or sarcastic G3n0c|d3? I've been to their site and seen their list, which includes two hearing aid dealers about an hour drive from me (and I don't drive). I guess should have been more specific and said, "where's the best place to buy the PFEs online for shipment...- momerath

ER4 cable (APS?), new Phonaks, or?
Etymotics replied today: "I am happy to further evaluate your earphones. We can replace the cable if needed. We do not sell and ship any complaints for the ER4 earphones. Although it appears to be simple to remove the cable from the transducer housing, there is a small component in the design...- momerath

ER4 cable (APS?), new Phonaks, or?
I have some ER4Ps with a, once flakey, now nearly-always-absent right channel. It seems clear to me that it's the cable, though I haven't done the ultimate test of swapping drivers, because I was worried about making the connection loose; I'd obviously do that before making any final decision to...- momerath

Milwaukee (mini)Meet?
I'll PM ebonyks, but I might be willing to host a really small meet at my own apartment in a month or so. I just moved into this place about 2 months ago, and its still not really set up for entertaining, but it could be relatively soon. Its pretty big for an apartment (its actually a...- momerath

Can't get my AV 710 to work in Linux
Sorry I havent gotten back to you. I still havent tried to get the analog working and wanted to do that before I wrote a big howto. The only thing I see that you did differently with your config is that I put my options on one line (options model=av710, srate=44100) but I dont know if that...- momerath

Can't get my AV 710 to work in Linux
OK, briefly, what I've learned is that the original poster and I have a slightly different revision of the av-710 than most other people. Alsa misidentifies it. You must add "options model=av710 srate=44100" to your alsa configuration file (/etc/modules.d/alsa in gentoo). From there I've gotten...- momerath

Can't get my AV 710 to work in Linux
Holy crap! I've never had this many problems with a card in linux I'm using alsa driver 1.09b (the package rather than in-kernel support) along with current vers of all the other alsa packages and it wont even save its own mixer state Anyway, I'm going to keep trying- if anyone has the card...- momerath

Still in love with my Sennheiser HD590
I bought some for my gf because she wanted open cans that would sound good without an amp and had lots of detail and extension. Coupled with the good deal on refurbs at amazon a while back (still going?), the 590 seemed like a natural choice. I wasn't prepared to like them as much as I do-...- momerath

Milwaukee (mini)Meet?
Hello cheeseheads I've been busy and just enjoying my gear for a while, but I'm about to get some new cans and an amp and would love to share them and some gear I will probably sell soon with other head-fiers in the area. I dont know if there has been or will soon be a Chicago meet, but...- momerath

Brief Impressions on the HD-600 + Headphile Maple Cups
I hate to bump this old thread a second time in as many days, but the headphone forum just gets so many posts that its buried again almost immediately. I know there must be more of you who've heard Headphile's Senn woodies.- momerath

Brief Impressions on the HD-600 + Headphile Maple Cups
I'd love to hear from others who've experienced headphile woodies with 580/600s. I've got some 580s on the way, and I'm a bit worried that they'll be too laid back for me. They've got a Meier Oelbach replacement cable, and I'll be using them with a JMT built Pimeta with ad843 opamps. I'm used...- momerath

Downgrading to just a sound card (Linux compat)
The revolution is usb right? I got a Transit working, but it was an unbelievable PITA, and I'm pretty sure the Revo has the same troubles (ie you have to get the firmware out of the windows drivers and use madfuloader to load it and then reset your usb bus (which I never managed to do without...- momerath

A500s, First REAL headphone experience (56k warning) - Biggest Disappointment Ever
After reading the first and last couple pages of this 8! page thread, I've gotta say, I'm *really* pissed off! I've started a couple threads with legitimate questions that I actually want answers to rather than to get a reaction, and was only responded to by 3 people. I have *never* resorted to...- momerath

I cant help you yet, but I'm about to purchase a chaintech and I have loads of experience getting sound cards working in linux (I've even hacked the alsa drivers a couple times). So, if you're still stuck in a week or so, I'll try to help you out.- momerath

Recommend a new (used?) system from phones to sound card <=$500
Thanks again catscratch. Given your answers, I might have been better off keeping my dAck (it didnt cost thousands, but it is highly regarded and has a very black background) and getting the lambdas with the money from selling my phones and amp. But oh well... it will be nice not to have to...- momerath

Recommend a new (used?) system from phones to sound card <=$500
m-audio's are just *barely* linux compatible- too much of a pain- I wont be buying another one (i have a transit that is now fried). Although I am coding a computer game for a living, I actually couldn't care less about gaming features since I almost never boot windows and most of that stuff...- momerath

Downgrading to just a sound card (Linux compat)
Impatience won, and I agreed to buy a package from a head-fier: HD580 w/ Oelbach cable, and an JMT made PIMETA w/ 8620s for $290 shipped. Seemed like a good deal. I know the 580s are comfortable and non-fatiguing which is important to me, but I'm a bit worried that they wont be as detailed as...- momerath
