I would say price-performance-ratio for the Sennheiser-590 is one of the best on the market given their qualities and price. I wouldn't say they sound LESS then the 600 JUST DIFFERENT. They are more airy then the 600... softer pads... lighter in weight... cord on one side... and easier to drive...

Brown 911 has given the impression that his Sennheiser and Grado mix doesn't substanciale reduce soundquality on Perreaux... if it does at all. Doobooloo that lower impedance headphones are tricky. Maybe it is safe to conlude then that a Sennheiser combo (mine) with higher impedance does not...

Soldering burns the lacquer off... yes but it depends on the wattage and temperature off your soldering iron. Soldering irons for fine electronical work may not get hot enough to burn off the lacquer. So a lighter is probably a better means to do it.

Sounds reassuring. But can you clarify why lenght of the cable isn't such an issue for you. Is that just your opnion, different from person to person, or is there a plausible technical explanation that can take away my doubt at once? Because that's more reassuring.

I had great replies earlier on a question. This one concerns a cable swap. Right now I own a Silver Audio Silver Bullet 4.0 ($225) interconnect and was planning to replace it with a more organic sounding cable (Stealth PGS, $1800 if bought new). The latter is supposed to be WAY better ofcourse...

Coating is a flimsy solution that looks and feels like paint. It can easily be burned off and but not stripped off... Clean the wire before soldering. The remains of coating and fingerprints would make it a less then optimal soldering.

I have cut off a meter of the stock Sennheiser cable and reterminated it with a quarter inch jack, replacing the flimsy eight inch plug, and thereby audibly improving the sound. You don't have to buy a cardas cord of mess with the joints. Just do it the way stated and you will have the best of...

I am browsing through the amplifier section for hours to find a classy amplifier for headphone listening. But the synergy or combination with the headphone determines the success of it all. Thanks for the input. Very helpfull!! I still wonder if an amplifier with equalizer wouldn't solve the problem nicely and haven't seen many references to one. So a good last tip on a worldclass headphone amplifier with equalizer would be a nice finish. Vincent
