Alessandro MS1000 and MS Ultimate - DIY & modding [56K warning]
Back with an update. I had a chance to try out authentic G cush and SR80x from a friend. First, I was completely wrong about the aftermarket G cush vs genuine Grado brand. I had done some research and very unscientific hearing comparison between the two, both with MS1000 mod and stock (my...- exe163

post your grado mods....
Yup, they said they don't sell parts. I have seen them in many "DIY" headphones from Aliexpress so the part should be generic (in China at least). Now I just need a way to get them from western friendly retailers.- exe163

post your grado mods....
I am in the process of building a pair of SennGrado with PMX100 drivers. Housing will be 3D printed. After extensive research, headband options seem to be: - custom, too expensive for my taste - Sony MDR 7506 with slight mod ($20) - Generic foldable headphones ($10, Vivitar DJ Mixers) - M50x...- exe163

Grado modders go Magnum
DIY earphone labs Grado drivers intrigue me. I was wondering if I could build a similar sounding set as the Hemps with the Hemps drivers and different cups. I have a 3D printer and really want to design and print the cups out of PLA/PEGT plastic, mostly just for the look. Alternatively, wood...- exe163

Alessandro MS1000 and MS Ultimate - DIY & modding [56K warning]
With little experience modding headphones I was still able to notice a massive difference in bass and sound stage as many claimed. It definitely changed the sound signature compare to classic Grado. I don't think it transforms the MS1i into a $1000 headphone. It's more different sounding than...- exe163

Alessandro MS1000 and MS Ultimate - DIY & modding [56K warning]
13 years later, I am finally able to do this mod! As a bonus, I designed a snap on ring. It can glued to the distancer. The combined unit then can be snap onto the MS1 (I am guessing by extension, any Grado). This way, the mod is non-permanent and I can more easily switch back to stock if...- exe163

$100 Portable vs desktop amp, Qudelix5K vs Liquid spark, why they sound so different?
With that those price tags I can rest easy that the desktop amp route is the optimal and only path for me. :) While we are on this topic I might as well get this confusion out of the way as well\: what's the point of having a (expensive/good) desktop DAC? I already have the understanding that...- exe163

Monoprice Monolith Liquid Spark - By Alex Cavalli
I was planning build a small device that joins headphone and mic signals together into a single TRRS so that I can connect to my Macbook directly via one cable. I can use the front headphone jack (semi-permenantly attached to this "box") and that's one way. But if I can free up the front...- exe163

Monoprice Monolith Liquid Spark - By Alex Cavalli
I was wondering if the pre-amp RCA output is the same as front 1/4"? Can I plug in my headphones to a RCA converted port and get the same output and sound?- exe163

$100 Portable vs desktop amp, Qudelix5K vs Liquid spark, why they sound so different?
Ah I see, this makes sense. Ironically, the Q5K publishes HD600 current and power usage at different sound levels: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QFxW6BpQVMZ2VPTv-8VTiP_5oiFR_WMQTYjngyHrsls/edit#gid=374902692 On paper, this should drive my HD6xx more than adequately. So I tried pushing...- exe163

$100 Portable vs desktop amp, Qudelix5K vs Liquid spark, why they sound so different?
I am just entering to amp scene. Been a "non-believer" for a long time. One of the mystery to me still is what makes an amp sound good. For a while, I had been powering my HD6xx from my Macbook Pro. It was loud enough and Apple DAC has a reputation of being low distortion and transparent. But it...- exe163

RBH - HP-2 ULTRALIGHT BERYLLIUM HEADPHONES
I just received my pair so I thought I might log my mid-fi impression of it. I was looking for a pair of closed-back headphone around $150 to be used in an open office environment. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of notable candidates to choose from for my use. When I heard people raving...- exe163

Under $150 closed back headphone for work, looking at the used market
HP151 is going for 130 on amazon right now and looks very tempting. One thing that worries me is hinge problem that a lot of people reported. Another contender two I found are RBH HP-2: $140 and Brainwaves hm5: $129.50. These are the main headphones that I am considering new. Any suggestions in...- exe163

Under $150 closed back headphone for work, looking at the used market
My budget is around $150 for a pair of closed headphone for work. I looked around and most of the current headphones around this price range are meh. The only few real contenders are HD589 CS and DT770. I was wondering what are some heavy hitters in the used market around this price range...- exe163

Want something similar design as Apple Earpods but better sounding
I am looking for a pair of earbuds that are non-isolating and has a mic, similar to the Apple Earpods. And they should be better sounding. I had a pair of Urbanears Medis (https://www.urbanears.com/ue_za_en/medis) that fit the bill, but they finally broke, out of warranty, and discontinued. I...- exe163

What's wrong with my UM3X?
Hello, I am having some problems with my UM3X. When I listen to music, sometimes the right monitor would go out. When tab it or readjust the position, it usually comes back on. Anyone know what might be the problem? Is there any cost effective way to fix it? Thanks in advance.- exe163

Which IE to be "balanced" in the $300-$400 range???
I am not a headphone guru but I do have a UM3X non detachable. They are every very neutral, almost to a point of boring. But when I put on some classical I can definitely appreciate the definition of it. The sound stage is very narrow when compared to my older super.fi 5p.- exe163

I switched to another x16 PCI-E slot and the problem still persist. Though now it produce less irritating sound.
