For the R26 right? I would be looking at one of the Audioquest USB cables. Using LAN is complicated for me and I've never done that before. Wouldn't mind trying, but I'd like to start with USB and wanted to know if it's good enough for a DAC this price.

So basically I can forget about USB and optical. Ok what would be the shortcoming of USB in this case for my knowledge if someone could please elaborate.

Hi Sorry, I was away a bit. I want to use the DAC along with either my active monitors, or my headphones, not simultaneously. But the DAC + Pre will be used simultaneously.

Also, the Fiio M15 has a very good battery life, 2nd only the the Sony signature line. With an AK4499 DAC, dual pieces actually. So it is not only about the DAC but its implementation. Of course that 4499 is hungry, I'm aware.

Shouldn't that be specific to the 4499 and not the earlier versions?

I meant for the M9. The battery life kept me away from the M8. Just as the neutrality kept me away from the M15.

Yes, this is a major + point. I am hoping battery life has improved too. That steered me away from the M8, just as the more analytical signature kept me away from the Fiio M15. If the M8 had the Fiio battery life, I'd have bought one.

Isn't it true that R2R DACs tend to not be good at the lower frequency spectrum reproduction, and that's why are a bit of a no-no?

Hmm. The balanced out on the Sony is the same as the unbalanced out on that 5k which is 2 vrms. That tiny DAC is quite powerful. So balanced out on the Sony would have the same power as you're getting.
