Wooden portable ATH-ESW9 arrived! (with pics)
I've listened to the HD-25-1 although it was through an amp and I only had the choice of 2 songs (not anything I would listen to). It sounded ok but didnt blow me away. I have heared the ES7's through my ipod and they sounded ok too. These are the only two sets I have heared other than my crappy...- smarrad

Wooden portable ATH-ESW9 arrived! (with pics)
C'mon guys, How long until we get a review? The suspense is killing me! All sounds positive so far. Although I'm wondering if I would really benefit from the sound quality while commuting (the london underground can get fairly noisey) - maybe i would benefit more from the isolation of the...- smarrad

Serj Tankian - Elect The Dead
i have too agree - Daron took creative control and we ended up with songs like "all-star hollywood baseball" . Why on earth did they release a double album when they needed to pad it out with that stuff? I still treat the first two albums as the 'real' SOAD albums. or at least the albums... -
Best PORTABLE, closed back for $200
At this stage, I'm looking at either the HD-25-1's or the ATH-ESW9 - the new AT "woodie" portables. Just waiting to hear what everyone has to say about them. I was down to the HD-25-1's and the ES7's however I was concered about the ES7's SQ and figured they wouldnt be the best option (If only...- smarrad

Wooden portable ATH-ESW9 arrived! (with pics)
So after whittling down my choices to the ES7's and the HD-25-1's, I'll have to add the ESW9's. When they say portable, surely the don't require an amp ? Although are you guys suggesting that the ESW9's might not be ideal for rock music? Certainly at the top of my price range. Wonder if...- smarrad

these will be something that i wear everywhere i go, so the appearance is important. It's the same as considering the appearance of the clothes you wear - except this is the one item I will always be wearing.- smarrad

Will 192k Mp3's sound rubbish through $200 cans?
is it worth spending $200 on a pair of good cans - A900s's, D2000's, ES7's etc. - when the majority of my music is mp3's imported at between 180k and 256k?- smarrad

ATH-A900's in public?
I REALLY want to be told that these cans are ok to be worn around the city/commuting. However, i'm 99% certain that this is out of the question. "look like an alien" is the quote that sticks in my mind - i cant find pics of anyone wearing them. So, what should i get instead? I've got...- smarrad

Just got my ATH-A900
The A900's are too big to wear out and about, right? (I'm looking for something like the A900's in regards to sound quality and isolation, but something to can commute with - doesn't seem to exist)- smarrad

Lol. And so it begins... So, with an amp, what would you suggest? what are the next steps up to get me reasonable isolation (although anything will be better than what i've got now), reasonable soundstage and nice overall sound quality?- smarrad

hd25-1 impressions thread
I've read that the HD-25-1's have no soundstage. This, I assume, is a big disadvantage. Could anyone please clarify? I'm looking at a pair of these for my ipod. I listen to mainly Rock, indie, metal and some electronica.- smarrad

I've decided against IEM's. Looking seriously at the HD-25-1's but the whole soundstage (or lack thereof) thing concerns me. And I'm unsure whether they would be ideal for rock. I keep going back to the ES7's too.- smarrad

Best PORTABLE, closed back for $200
I've read a few posts that suggest that the HD-25-1's have no soundstage and tend to be quite analytical - which, as these seem like studio headphones, would make sense. Will this effect the general appreciation of the music? Don't get me wrong - I dont take listening to music lightly. I want...- smarrad

Best PORTABLE, closed back for $200
Yes, I'm another one looking for cans for up to around $200 (£100). I'll be using them with my ipod, unamplified, while walking around the city and on the london underground (noisey) so I want something that will keep out at least a little bit of the background noise. It's probably worth...- smarrad
