Sony MDR-1000x - earpad replacement & mod
I think they are just a tad bit bulkier. Here are next to another pair with the original pads: I've been comparing them for hours and stand by my recommendations -- the bass increase is substantial and the soundstage less constricted. There's no cracking on my headband, don't know where you...- andres

Sony MDR-1000X
If you're willing to do a bit of modding, I found the Dekoni Bose replacement pads work great. I also highly recommend to remove the foam between ear and driver and stuff it with cotton to greatly improve bass reponse. See my thread here:- andres

Sony MDR-1000x - earpad replacement & mod
Finally, I marked the Sony rings on the Dekoni pads with a knife, used a bit of Loctite Ultra Gel control Super Glue, and carefully put them together: Here is the finished product: Much improved soundstage, clearer mids and highs, tighter and deeper lows!! And more importantly, I can now...- andres

Sony MDR-1000x - earpad replacement & mod
I've been using the Sony's for the past 3 months and loved them for the most part. I had a few gripes with them: 1. Ear pads are too narrow, thus sitting on my ears and heating them quickly. 2. Parts of my ear touched the foam that protected the driver, felt unconformable. 3. Soundstage felt...- andres

help me replace my SR80s pls...
As I said in my initial post, I do love the SR80s sound. However, as them being open cans, they leak lots of sound and are thus innapropiate for my work environment. Will definitively keep them for home use As for the bithead, it does appear to have what Im looking for. Has anyone used the...- andres

help me replace my SR80s pls...
I just noticed something about the dt770s that I bought.... they are the ones with the black cups... but as I was looking at more reviews, I noticed that there is a newer model with the gray cups, and a carrying bag and such... did I buy a discontinued model???? The weird thing is that at...- andres

help me replace my SR80s pls...
Thanks for all the help so far!! I´ll definitively keep my Grados, but for home use where I dont have to worry about isolation. I have already bought the Beyerdynamics DT770-80. After reading tons of reviews about them, they seem to have what Im looking for: pretty good isolation and very...- andres

help me replace my SR80s pls...
Thanks for all of the replies! About my comment about the SR80 soundstage: Well as you guys might have noticed I'm pretty much a newb in this business. I have not heard any better/more expensive headphones than my grados, so I have nothing to compare them to. And I happen to like the way...- andres

help me replace my SR80s pls...
I´ve been using the Grado SR80s for about 6 months already. I use them 8 hours a day, to listen music from my hp laptop (which has a really good sound card). Things I like from these phones: 1. Good nice deep bass 2. Wide soundstage 3. very detailed mids and highs. So basically...- andres
