It's funny how different people use different aspects of music to make a first evaluation. My first two things are electric distorted guitars (honk? Enough bite?) and cymbals (natural or peaks and dips).

    HISENIOR AUDIO Discussion Thread

Listener mentioned that the spinfit cp100 did best at damping some (minor) treble spike. Which tips do you suggest? I often go for azla with wide bores (xelastec was it?) but wide bores would probably boost treble.

Jumped on the hype train and placed my order. Looking forward for a great tuning! Will post my impressions and comparisons with mest MK2,prestige ltd , variations if there is interest.

I do have my ol' reliable Fiio E17K at my office desk. Thanks for the recs! Good to know - as you imply, graphs often don't give you the full story especially for treble.

From the Graphs Fan 2 seems pretty much what I am looking for - until the steep treble drop off above 10k. I think I would need to hear this with my own ears to evaluate it.

I still want to use my work PC for listening (the office Wi-Fi is not reliable and I need to use ethernet). Thanks for the recommendations. I read your review of the AFUL MagiCOne recently (great review!) and its definitely on my list. Need to check out the other ones you mentioned.

What is a good mid-fi IEM (for convenience, lets say below 400 USD) that you consider to have a relaxed presentation? Relaxed presentation = no forward upper-mids or treble. (My ears are sensitive to upper mid-range forwardness like the Variations or EE Odin. Treble should not be peaky as it...

    Focal Clear headphones

Got these perforated sheepskin replacement earpads: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001014385931.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.5.6d131802xRmkJB Very nice build quality, fit and comfort. Soundwise, it feels like the midbass is too strong (guesstimating around 2db) with those...

    ThieAudio Signature Series Tribrid IEMs

    1. bass is good when slam is important, but not the main focus because its a bit dry. So for instance metal, soundtrack, and electronic great because it accentuates the slam of drum hits. Not so good with RnB and soul where you want a "buttery" enveloping bass. Treble is crisp and highly...

    ThieAudio Signature Series Tribrid IEMs

I agree that the quality of the bass presentation (fast with slam and impact) is good for this genre, where bass is just one among many instruments in usually quite busy music. For me the bass is still a bit too much for rock and metal usually. The bass quality/presentation only is a pet peeve...

Finally got around to writing up my thoughts about the Prestige LTD. It's been my daily driver for the past 3 months. Great IEM! https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/thieaudio-prestige-ltd.27018/reviews

Review by 'zootx' on item 'Thieaudio Prestige LTD'

Bass The bass on the prestige OG was described by precogvision as mostly "an afterthought". Going from quantity, this seems wrong - the bass is elevated and impactful. However, from a quality perspective this seems more correct. Bass is somewhat unengaging, but this means focus is put on the...

    Focal Clear headphones

IMHO HD800s and Clear are doing completely different things and this cannot be changed by source gears and probably not even by EQ. HD800s brings huge soundstage and a lot of treble details for great analytical reproduction of instruments that have their emphasis on treble (e.g., violins). Clear...

    ThieAudio Signature Series Tribrid IEMs

If no sale I would go for a reseller honestly, even if you pay some extra. I am not aware of QC issues with ThieAudio but still you probably have better service and more customer rights, especially in Europe.

Do thieaudio IEMs (monarch, prestige...) Ever go on sale? 11.11 - singles day - a common sales day in China is right around the corner and I'm not sure whether I should wait.

IEM for metal music and hard rock - ultimate solution

Yes your statement about mastering and recording is very on point. These 4 are I assume the softears turiis, nightjar singularity, and rhapsodio Eden? What would you favour with, say, a death or thrash metal record with rather raw production? And no I haven't checked into sources yet.

IEM for metal music and hard rock - ultimate solution

I have been thinking about getting an IEM that has a more relaxed treble to handle more poorly mastered albums. Currently rocking mainly the mest mk2 which sound great in general (sometimes with EQ, sometimes stock) but dont work with every record. I am considering the aur neon pro or 7th...

Heck yeah Stronghold Crusader, that game ruled! I took home the Mest Mk2 rather than the U12t for extended testing. For now I seek something more exciting in the high-end category and may grab the U12t - which was great but has no "wow" factor used later on.

The Official 64 Audio Thread | apex & tia Technologies

Testing the U12t tomorrow. Are there any songs that are particularly good on them (the U12t has been praised for its versatility, but maybe there are songs that are just better on this IEM than others?). Are there any songs that are particularly BAD on them (for instance due to its treble...

Effortlessly switching between transparency mode and active/passive noise canceling is an excellent feature for many situations. It's also well implemented on the Sony WF-1000XM4 IMO.

    ThieAudio Signature Series Tribrid IEMs

High praise for the Thieaudio Prestige Ltd from these two early reviews: HBB AudioLevels Seems like they fixed the upper treble issues. Still likely not as resolving in the mid-range as the Monarchs, but other possible advantages in the bass, fit, and treble. Not sure if I should pull the...

    Focal Clear headphones

Clear has great macrodynamics, punch, and a fast driver that can keep up with busy passages. There is also a wonderful reproduction of percussions such as drum hits and cymbals (although there is some bass roll-off). It works great with metal. I would EQ the small peak in the mids at 1-1.5k...
