I've been listening to my newly obtained hifiman he6se from adorama with my dmp. The highs are really shrill, every percussion hit hurts my ears. I reckon its the tuning on sony devices. It sounds less piercing out of my topping nx4 (lack of power? idk). I have yet to try it on the D90/A90 stack...

any opinions on s8 vs illumination? i was quite impressed with the spaceship for its price. >_< want to have something a little more neutral or different compared to my ier-z1r.

yes, that was what i'm thinking of, using the TA as a dac. but the a1es is an integrated amp so I would essentially have two preamps in my chain. it's certainly a combo I've never done before. :D

weird question but is it possible to hook the pre-out of the zh1es to the TA-A1ES amp's line-in? im thinking of getting a speaker system but im wondering if another dac like the hap-z1es is necessary. and the quality of said configurations?

i was just gonna ask here if the sound improvement is worth it as well. for me, the ZH1ES was markedly better in sound quality over the WM1Z, and I wondered if the same could be said for the DMP. I only had 10 minutes hearing the DMP and couldn't reach a conclusion. Or maybe I should hold up and...

i have a friend working in china. he was able to buy it from one of the taobao sellers and ship it for me. the second option would be to purchase from tmall for a slightly higher markup and pay customs too which will probably be almost as high as getting it locally? idk.

They did get their reputation tarnished with the xperia and vaio line for lack of innovation. And the local sentiment here is that Sony is a thing of the past and the chinese brands are more capable now which isn't technically far off. But imo their tv, camera ,entertainment system and audio...
