Monoprice Monolith Liquid Spark - By Alex Cavalli

The stock PSU is 36V 1.25A, which is more power than the LS will ever use. You'll be fine with a 36V 1A power supply. It uses a 5.5mm jack which is the most common size, you can find lots of them on amazon. I would avoid the absolute cheapest ones, because not all SMPS are created equal, some...

Monoprice Monolith Liquid Spark - By Alex Cavalli

I highly recommend checking out BlueSpartan's custom EQ profile for the 58X. For a while I was using the automatically generated EQ profile from AutoEQ on Github, then I came across BlueSpartan's EQ and now I can't listen to the 58X without it. Here's the profile, you might have to change the...

    Stacking magnets?

Very well. I understand the general concept of a "driver" and how VC control and resonance play into audio reproduction. It seems you have a good understanding of it. You can gain efficiency and output in the higher frequencies by adding field strength, but at the cost of less resonance and...

    Stacking magnets?

Fair enough. Although I would say there is a difference between custom earpads to make your headphones seal better, and changing the magnetic field of a precision driver. I'm not going to take apart my headphones and experiment tho. Especially not based on subjective claims of improved sound...

    Stacking magnets?

All this seems rather absurd to me. The magnet of a driver in any decent headphone, is part of the tuning design. It's not like the engineers with hundreds of thousands of dollars in test equipment, are just slapping any old random magnet on there and hoping it sounds good. It seems pretty...

As the pros explain, physical tuning can only go so far, especially with a headphone. When you design a loudspeaker, the tuned box and the room it's in become part of the system and help to smooth out the response of the driver. With headphones this doesn't happen.

Ever since I found the more precise EQ settings on the AutoEQ github, I've just been using that. I still think there's room for improvement but I haven't had much time in the last few days to listen. Glad you're interested and liked the EQ settings tho, I will hopefully have an updated one here...

Lifetime warranty doh Also people are far more likely to write negative reviews than positive ones, so take what you read on amazon with a grain of salt.

Superior might not be the best word, the build quality of the 58X is better for sure, but response wise they are just different. 58X Raw response 598 Raw response (grey lines) EDIT: Ya i guess they are superior lol *oops, double post :cold_sweat:

Ya, I just discovered that the other day as well. Definitely an interesting piece of kit. I think digital EQ still has more advantages personally. You can be much more precise (kameleon only has a few filters per custom EQ) with digital and you can change it to suit your taste on the fly. With...

It's a public forum The title of the thread is "58X review and MEASUREMENTS" If you dont think measurements useful, idk why you're here. Feel free to add to the discussion If you don't have anything to add, the least you can do is not bother other people who are adding to the conversation The...

There should be no perceptible difference in sound quality (for any well designed amp) between balanced and unbalanced. An unbalanced amp will use a ground reference and amplify a positive voltage. Balanced amps split the incoming audio into a + and - voltage and one side of the amp amplifies...

My point was that most people listening to EDM are probably not listening on open back headphones, so mixing EDM to sound good on something like the 58X means it probably won't sound that good out of speakers or closed back headphones. The bass response of the 58x is good but flat, when you...

@highlightshadow Thanks for the tip m8! I didn't realize that was an option! @Electrolite you can try out what HighlightShadow suggested and sweep thru the range with a sharp notch filter until you find the offending frequencies. I thought the Rtings vid was also really informative. I found it...

On the main page of github it explains where to find your settings and how to use them. It's hard to get really accurate measurements in the treble range so the EQ could be boosting something to an unnatural level. I wish I had a more user friendly EQ like what is used in recording software...

Found a newer version of the Harman target EQ for the 58X, this one is more precise than the first one I was using from Oratory1990's reddit post. I got it from AutoEQ github where you can find 1100 custom EQ presets for almost any modern headphone. AutoEQ 58X for Peace It could still use...

It's nice to see that the vali 2 isn't just a run of the mill starved plate buffer. They are actually using a somewhat high voltage on the tube which is a good thing. With tube amps, most of the tube tone comes from the pre stage so I would think the vali will give you some of that tube sound.

I would buy a stock senny cable and 2.5mm TRRS connector and make my own. The stock cable is balanced until it terminates at the 1/4" jack. The prices for prebuilt seem absurd I think I just stumbled onto a gold mine. If anyone is curious about what a headphone "should" sound like, this will...

For a loudspeaker, flat response is determined with a measurement microphone which itself is calibrated to flat response by using pink noise (noise that has the same energy level across the entire audible range) The mic and speaker are placed in a room with no reflections and pink noise is...

I'll try that out, I did notice the highs can become sibilant and irritating depending on the track. The 6700hz boost is part of the original target EQ but I can understand that a +7dB boost might not sound great on a headphone that wasn't good at reproducing 6700hz in the first place. That's...
