I am trying to find a way to replace my desk-fi music source from laptop+ Foobar 2000 to my portable DAP. However, A&K SP1000 has no volume normalize function in it which makes it impossible to use it as a player because the output volume differences are so big even at the maximum volume...

I also used to pair my HD800S with HD-DAC1 before moving on to HDV820. The main difference between DAC1 and AMP1 is the latter literally is more of amplifier than DAC. It can even amplify passive bookshelf speakers while DAC1 cannot.

You are not alone for that. I am going to stick with Andro S till there comes a Solaris equivalent or an upgrade WITH a far better fit.
