you could plug the line out from a guitar amp, of a guitar amp modeler(this one is mono though), or Multi-Effects setup. but it can be a trial to get rid of hum. my amp has a cd line in, and headphone out, but it tends to hum over head phones.   they even have purpose build guitar headphone...

sorry about bumping this thread, but i really didn't wont to start a new one. just needed to add, if you're finding some recordings harsh. there is one more thing i have found that can cause it. some albums are are being recorded so loud(or compressed) that they will cause your source to over...

something else to try is reinstalling the drivers. if you have an old hard drive on hand you might try a clean install on it to see if its something you've installed recently. otherwise check the bios, there are all kinds of things in there that can cause trouble. good luck.   zombie
