I think this has occurred to me a little bit but I still don't feel that they go that loud coming from my PC.

Burn in doesnt make headphones louder, it only changes the sound signature...sometimes they become smoother or depending the headphone you have.

My MS1s need the volume on 20 on my Zune HD where as my cx300 IIs do the same at 13 but that may be apples and oranges. Perhaps it just takes getting used to. My horrible cheap Sony MDR-XD200s need almost max volume on all my players - the Ms1s are much easier to drive. I am still glad I got an amp - big improvement. Next step is amp with bass boost so I can turn my EQ off.

one thing with grados is new pads can sound quieter, because the drivers are held further from your ears.
