Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay H8 (Wireless Noise Cancelling On-Ear Headphones)
How are they more comfortable than the H8? I wear glasses all the time, and usually have my H8s on my head when I'm out. They're some of the most comfortable headphones I've used.- Trastan

PETEREK (formerly cCasperTFG) MOD & Cable Thread
I had work done on two of my headphones in 2015: TH900 (reterminated with balanced plug and converter back to 1/4) and LCD-X (entirely new cable). Both have held up perfectly, and have been a joy to use since. At this point no further praise needs to be added, but I had to come back to say that...- Trastan

You know, that's worth stating - I've had a cable created and another headphone reterminated, and both are still rock solid a few years later. Wonderful stuff.- Trastan

Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay H8 (Wireless Noise Cancelling On-Ear Headphones)
I was recently able to purchase a pair of these at a deep discount, and I only have good things to say. The touch controls have been fantastic for me, bluetooth is extremely reliable with my iPhone 6+, and the sound is excellent in both bluetooth and wired modes. Comfort is obnoxiously good, and...- Trastan

Sounds very similar to the fairly common (and effective) solution of adding foam shelf lining inside the Fostex TH-900 to tame the highs. Works wonders.- Trastan

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread
Quote: I don't know of one, unfortunately. The pads come off easily just by peeling them back slowly around the edges. Don't worry - they're meant to be user-replaceable, so just go slow and it'll make sense. Once you have that off you'll see a white plastic ring. I honestly don't recall if...- Trastan

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread
I'm sure that some folks will chime in with their opinions, but I wasn't ever satisfied with EQing down the TH900. Nothing ever sounded right. However, I did find that the shelf liner mod (quick, easy, cheap, and reversible) completely solved the issue. I absolutely love my TH900 now, and...- Trastan

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread
Those are my headphones, done so that I could use them with my Mjolnir 2 amp. As far as impressions go, I'd say the differences aren't huge. I had the mod done more so that I could use the TH900 with my Mjolnir 2 properly, but actual sound quality improvements weren't terribly significant over...- Trastan

Schiit Mjolnir 2 Listening Impressions
It does not, and, from what I understand, that's by design. I don't really understand it, but that's how it is, I guess. That's a feature that I enjoy and use regularly on my Asgard 2.- Trastan

Very much looking forward to hearing about your experiences. I've enjoyed (and learned a lot from) your previous posts on Head-Fi, and I'd be grateful to hear more of your thoughts and history.- Trastan

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread
In addition to what @Sonic Defender said, some amps won't work via a single-ended > XLR adapter. For example, my Mjolnir 2 would trip its protection circuit if I tried that. Whether it works or not, there's no reason to have a balanced amp if you're just going to run it through a 1/4"...- Trastan

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread
@PETEREK handled mine, as well. Since the TH900 cable is high-quality and ready for a balanced connector, he was able to cut off the 1/4" plug, add the 4-pin XLR on, and convert the 1/4" end to an adapter. Works beautifully. You can see some pics in this post: ...- Trastan

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread
For whatever it's worth, I'm 30 and am definitely overwhelmed by the TH900 treble. I love their sound otherwise, and I'll be trying that mod soon. I did recently pick up a pair of LCD-X, though, so they've been occupying my listening time. Their open, neutral sound is a great compliment to...- Trastan

Having just purchased a pair of LCD-X, I contacted @PETEREK for a quality balanced cable to replace the mediocre pack-in. He recommended the Double Helix Cables' Nucleotide. Looking forward to receiving these on Wednesday!- Trastan

That looks like the HiFiMan connector type. I'm sure that @PETEREK would be able to add those (or the HD800 versions) onto the TH900. The stock TH900 cable is pretty great, though - I wouldn't throw that away unless I needed to! Just get it balanced with an adapter, like I did above with mine... -
Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread
Well, kind of (ambiguity!). Reterminating will mean actually cutting the cord near the end and attaching the XLR connector to the exposed wires. You'll want to have someone used to this take care of it for you (like I did). However, if you look at the pictures that I quoted, you'll notice...- Trastan

Schiit Mjolnir 2 Listening Impressions
Update: after some more break-in(?) time, coupled with better learning how to listen to music more critically, I've found that I'm preferring the LISST over tubes for the Mjolin 2/Gungnir Multibit combo. They reduce the harshness in the treble on my Fostex TH900 (especially helpful with those)...- Trastan

Schiit Mjolnir 2 Listening Impressions
You won't be disappointed. The balanced out of the Mjolnir 2 is awesome, but the single-ended is no slouch. I can't speak for the Lyr 2, but it was an obvious upgrade coming from my Asgard 2. You'll especially have no issue with a set as easy to drive as the HD700 (which, if I remember...- Trastan
