I also get this behavior, though I'll admit I never use USB to transfer or manage music. When it DID work it was so painfully slow as to be useless. I always use a USB MicroSD adapter and just pop out the cards. I know USB has been historically tricky on some Rockbox ports, and it's likely that...

    Rockbox Xduoo X3

Rockbox has a ton of sound tweaking options. If you feel like experimenting, you can probably come up with a customised sound setting that will sound similar to the X3's original firmware. As far as HD audio, Rockbox will quite happily play any resolution you throw at it, but it will downsample...

It's still worth it to have a few power-only USB cables around, even if you don't need them for Rockbox. ;)

If you go into Settings - General Settings - System and scroll down, you'll find "Only Charge on USB Insert." Toggle that to "Yes" and your player will not connect to any USB cable for data. You should be able to charge and play that way. I have data disabled all the time, since I use a (much...

Go to Settings - General - Display - LCD Settings - First Buttonpress Enables Backlight and change it to Yes. That way you can press any button to wake the screen without changing the player's behavior. If you want to add a randomized folder or playlist to the currently playing playlist without...

    Rockbox Xduoo X3

The <microSD1> designation is a leftover from Rockbox being ported to players with internal storage and MicroSD expansion. Rockbox was always installed on internal storage, so external was considered <microSD1>, but since the X3 has no internal storage, Rockbox considers the card it's installed...

    Rockbox Xduoo X3

Exactly--EmPathWalker beat me to it. Use a smaller card to get the bootloader (the modified X3 firmware) installed. After that, as long as the entire .rockbox folder is in the root of the Slot 1 card, you're in business. You might be able to use a 128GB card, but they are flaky and might cause...

    Rockbox Xduoo X3

Correct. The modified X3 firmware update from XVortex's page as well as the entire .rockbox folder should be in the root of the card in Slot 1. It helps if the card itself is 16GB or less, formatted to FAT32 (they usually are already). It doesn't matter how the files got there. Update the X3...

I'm not sure if it will keep everything automatically synced, but I've never used that feature--I always sync manually because I don't trust the software to do it right. ;) I think MediaMonkey will sync music by playlist? It's been years since I even tried MediaMonkey, so I honestly couldn't...

Not sure I'd call myself an expert, but I'm glad to help. Foobar2000 doesn't sync your music like iTunes does, but it's a solid PC music player, and it has a lot of tools built-in to re-tag music files, rip CDs, add Replay Gain information, and most everything I'd feel like doing to my music...

    Rockbox Xduoo X3

Yeah, no worries. I'll do my best to check in on the forum more than I have been lately. How it breaks down is this: Rockbox was developed as a replacement firmware back in the day for the old Archos players. Since then, it's been ported to a bunch of other MP3 players, as displayed on their...

    Rockbox Xduoo X3

Hey Andrew, The Rockbox utility is only used for installing Rockbox on compatible players (and it runs Windows 10). The XDuoo X3 is technically not "compatible," so it's not on the list. You would install Rockbox by following the instructions on Vortex's page, linked in the first post. You do...

    Rockbox Xduoo X3

You can probably email XVortex and ask, but I'm assuming the bootloader is relatively set in stone. IIRC, all Rockbox targets with dual-boot rely on the hold switch to choose, which makes it very handy, especially if something goes wrong with one firmware or the other, you'll still be able to...

Be careful. If these are the kind of switches I'm thinking of, there is a comically tiny, convex metal disc the plastic grey bit presses against to make the connection (and the little click when pressed). If you pull out the broken plastic part, you might lose or misalign that disc.

Here's a fun one: OTG Playlists on XVortex's 170324 build seem to be duplicating songs somehow.   It seems to happen on poweroff after saving the playlist, so I wonder if the playlist control file is getting corrupted (maybe with buffered tracks?) and loading doubles when the player is powered...

Exactly! I never got around to asking him to fix Vorbis, but he did it--and far more. I sent him enough for a few beers to keep him fueled. ;)

Are your .cfg files in the root directory of MicroSD 1? Also, are you using wps themes for the Sansa Clip+? Of those themes, Hi-Fi works best for me, though I do increase the font size a bit. Make sure the theme .zip file is unzipping properly--I once unzipped it into the .rockbox folder instead...

XVortex, with working Vorbis you've now made the X3 my ideal Rockbox player! Thank you!!

I covered how to make playlists in Foobar2000 in a post here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/803844/rockbox-xduoo-x3/870#post_12978254   Otherwise, you can create on-the-go playlists pretty easily. Make sure the player is stopped (not paused--while it's playing, tap the power button to stop...

    Rockbox Xduoo X3

If a file is corrupted, Rockbox will skip it and play the next. Also, the Xduoo X3 port doesn't play Ogg Vorbis files for some reason, and will skip them entirely.

On a Mac, I'd suggest Musicbrainz Picard. The interface is a little odd, but it works well and has a ton of tagging features.

    Rockbox Xduoo X3

I'm not sure, but I don't think Rockbox is designed to play CD images. I think it's too much of a burden on the system. It may play a CD image that you have ripped to FLAC format with a CUE sheet, however. Just play the FLAC file itself, not the CUE sheet. Are you able to play the CD image...

Riolist2 is exactly right. You can also add everything on the Slot 2 card by selecting Files and then long-pressing Play while <microSD1> is highlighted. Then choose Curren Playlist - Insert Shuffled.   You can also tell Rockbox where to start the File browser. Riolist, it appears yours starts...

vicnsi, try the following: Settings - General Settings - System - Disk - Directory Cache - No My X3 gave me the panic error when I would start pressing buttons too soon after boot. Disabling the Directory Cache seemed to fix the issue. XVortex's newest release seems to have resolved it for me...
