STAX SR-009S new flagship electrostatic earspeakers released (with impressions)

Well I own 009 and 007 MKI for quite long time now and I've never heard of anything like it. I was asking, because I assumed that if you are stating something like that you are able to support this on technical level. Nevermind. (I'm not sure if Google really is anyone's friend :) )

STAX SR-009S new flagship electrostatic earspeakers released (with impressions)

Why? What's the reasoning behind this?

All my other gear is always balanced :) The reason for the switch was that my wife uses only se stuff so if she'd need them she would be able to use them with stock cable. I don't like to cut and modify stock cables as I prefer to do my own stuff from scratch. Anyway, nice work :)

How do they sound in balanced? Been thinking about modifying them a couple of years ago, but since I got D7200 my H6 sees almost no use. I was planning to put micro switch inside to be able to go back to SE

Basing on my experience with 7200, you should give them 100-150 (preferably) hours of burn in. Just leave them playing 24/7 for a week and you'll see (hear :))

That's not placebo. Swapping cables is all about small refinements. I have this cable and my impressions are exactly as your description. Though I do prefer PCOCC braided cable even better (I was linking it earlier in the thread).

If there's any chance of you traveling though Warsaw, just give me a shout and drop by. Srsly.

I may try that in the future. Tonight I've done some fun session with opamp rolling. But that's something for another post. Cutting long story short, I LOVE D7200 with 009 pads. No going back to stock for me now...

Well, cutting long story short :) 1: BNIB, home set 2: BNIB, office set 3: BNIB, replacement for 2, because one of the drivers became silent under ~200Hz, repair caused more damage as both of them were lacking bass and detail afterwards 4: BNIB, replacement for 3, when one of the drivers started...

My 1$ is on burn-in. Give them at least 24h. If you own (owned) D7200 you may (or may not :)) remember that thay also were a tad bit brighter straight from the box. This changes in first 24 hours(~) and continues within next 200h (to the smaller degree). I have this "fresh" as I am burning in my...

I had an opportunity to buy a pair of them slightly used for a bit less than 50$. So decided to try them - reasoning that if I wont like them with D7200, I can always leave them as spares for my SR-009. They are really good, but 150$ for pads only, compared to D7200 price doesnt make much...

OK so I have some news on the pads. Zolkis is right, 009 pads make a big and positive difference. D7200 gets a lot of detail, going back to stock pads is like placing veil on the drivers. Treble extension is better, bass goes deeper but at the same time there is a bit less of it making whole...

Well I may try do to some quick comparision, but I am worried that this may be skewed by driver changes, which were (AFAIR) during first ~50 hours (this will be my 4th D7200). Stay tuned after the weekend ;)

And I just got mine back, though they are hardly "mine", as they have been replaced with brand new pair in sealed box. So I guess I'll have a nice 200+ h burn-in ahead before I'll make any reasonable pad comparisions :) (~two weeks......?)

    Denon AH-7200

Will do that. Right after I'll get my 7200 back :) I own 009 but I was reluctant to take pads off. I had an opportunity to buy another used 009 pads fairly cheap - I paid more for Dekoni's.

Almost a year after purchase, but it was moderately used at best. More kinda like a backup hp, as I do most of my listening with my stax rig. But definetely more that 120hs, as my burn-in alone was something like 300-400h (though with low volume level). On the other hand I cannot surely say...

    Denon AH-7200

Well well well. Exactly same thing happened to mine, about a month ago. Left driver started distorting on bass notes, not always, but when it did, it was pretty bad. Like it was resonating for some reason when playing with some specific frequency. They are under warranty repair now, for quite...

Well I always form my pads back to right shape when I'm done listening. It literally takes 10-20 seconds to do that. It is also kinda fun (remember Zeos touching K7XX pads saying he can do that all the time? Same feeling ) Anyway, they are still in right shape. If/when they will...

PX was a bit better SQ wise (just so-so) than MX2 when I was deciding on what should I get for ANC set. But Sony's noice cancelling was simply the best. MX3 is better than MX2, so it should be on par or better than PX. But I haven't had the opportunity to test PX vs MX3 head to head as I did for...

Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay H6 Discussion Thread

If you need wireless and ANC (active noise cancelling) go for Sony WH-1000MX2 or MX3 QC35 - if you seriously consider them, do try to listen to them. My first encounter with them gave me a kind of "audio vomit" experience. I've tried two times more (thinking I should give them a chance) - but...

Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay H6 Discussion Thread

My pads are still like new, but that's because my H6s are backups for my D7200, which are backups for my Staxes. But when my wife's headphone pads (she also has H6, but Gen 1) will go flat, I will try steam cleaning on them. In every other material that I've tried so far it was not only...

Well closed ones, that are not portable do have uses: like offices, or back in home when you won't be bothering wife/husband in your shared bed. My open Staxes are best in the world, but my wife says that if I'm going to use them in our bed I may use speakers as well :)

Denon D7200 fits that bill for me, especially with Dekoni Sheepskin pads. Very siimiliar (at least to my ears) signature, but waaaaaaaay better in every way than H6. Except portability, that is :)

I didn't mean that I will literally CUT the wiring or tracks or anything else :) I want to cut the connection, but of course in civilized way :) and I'd like to place a bi-stable microswitch that would connect the line back, thus making them both SE and balanced - on demand :) Anyway, this gets...
