Just picked up some Gen2 last week, love them. Do the gen 1 have less bass, or does that come back with more driving force?

Anyhow just modded them to balanced :L3000:

How do they sound in balanced?

Been thinking about modifying them a couple of years ago, but since I got D7200 my H6 sees almost no use.

I was planning to put micro switch inside to be able to go back to SE

They sound really good, the difference between SE also depends on the dap etc, different opamps, power etc.

No need for a microswitch, either use a 4.4mm to 3.5mm adapter or as I prefer a separate cable. Your D7200 cable should work.

All my other gear is always balanced :)
The reason for the switch was that my wife uses only se stuff so if she'd need them she would be able to use them with stock cable. I don't like to cut and modify stock cables as I prefer to do my own stuff from scratch.

Anyway, nice work :)

I'd love to have a balanced set. I thoroughly enjoyed these cans, but ultimately sold them because I couldn't use them balanced. Replaced them with the Msr7b.

How do the Msr7b compare?
Let me know if your interested, I'm already doing another pair for a fellow headfier. Just ordered another pair of H6 Gen 2s from Amazon UK while they are at a bargain price.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely interested. I have to acquire another set 1st though.
The H6 is smooth with good head room. It just sucks you into the music with a fairly balanced sound - slight low end bump. Mids are slightly recessed, but easily equalized.
While the H6 has more decay, the Msr7b has a better sense of attack. Greater defined imaging and separation. Mids are less organic than the H6, and slightly forward - especially the high mids. Guitars are smooth and crunchy with the H6, more aggression and sizzle with the Msr7b. Msr7b has appropriate bass when the track calls for it, but low mids, certain drums sound a bit light and hollow at times. Greater treble extension though.
The H6 is lush, but never boring. Msr7b has more pop, and can get slightly fatiguing without some EQ work. Both have a really nice Soundstage, but in different ways. I like the airyness of the H6, while it's easier to pinpoint instruments on the Msr7b. Both are keepers for sure. Best portables I've heard, but I still think the 99 Classics take the cake, especially with rock n roll, which I primarily listen to.

Cool, thanks for the comparison. I just sold my 99c, had them a week and couldn't eq them to sound how i like. Even if I did I couldn't wear them at the gym. I'm a metal head so was surprised.

What are some of your other favorite cans for metal and such?
