FiiO X5 2nd gen Impressions and Discussion thread

OTG in the X5 II is not well implemented. I was able to get a 64GB OTG working, but my 256GB Lexar Thumbdrives were hopeless (after a lot of work with FiiO to try to get them working); the same setup that works perfectly with my X5 Gen One. FiiO admitted the X5 II OTG support is not as good as...

@Brooko Thanks - I did read that you didn't test OTG (and read everything you wrote with great appreciation). I just expect the X5.2 to be at least all the X5.1 was with regards to OTG (and more). I briefly had it working for a few minutes today, then back it reverted to the "External USB...

FiiO X5 2nd gen Impressions and Discussion thread

Hi DeLaw,   Congrats. I briefly had mine working, then it went back to the "External USB Storage Removed" endless, dismiss and repeat display. This is with the OTG cable that came with my X5 Gen1 and a Lexar 256GB slider (both work perfectly with my X5 Gen1). I'll try another OTG cable later...

FiiO X5 2nd gen Impressions and Discussion thread

Hi good sound,   Thanks for the info.   Perhaps - but not something I had time to read in the 144 pages of post to date.   The UI has OTG under Folders (it's active to select), exactly as the old X5 does, but it doesn't appear to work. An available option is a contract with the user that...

FiiO X5 2nd gen Impressions and Discussion thread

I received my X5 Gen 2 (adding to my X5 Gen 1) and can report the OTG is a PROBLEM (where my X5 Gen 1 handles OTG perfectly).   This is what I reported to FiiO:   Hi Team FiiO,   I just received my X5 2nd gen and I'm disappointed as it isn't handling OTG storage as my X5 first gen does; it...

Update: Plextor drive is ok and appears on my PC with all the expected content; not corrupt at all. I used a different OTG cable and tried again with my X5 and it did not work. When I try to access the OTG folder, the X5 states "No music found"; I know there's ~60GB of music on the SSD -...

Thanks for the info.   I started some preliminary testing, but need to be a bit more diligent before I'm confident in this observation:   I tried a exFAT formatted 256GB Plextor msata SSD in my Sabrent USB 3.0 msta enclosure connected to my OTG cable connected to my X5; did not work - would...

I'll take a look at that thread. On the Samsung Ultrabooks NP740U3E, the msata is installed without a heatsink; albeait with a reasonable amount of void around it. I've had a Plextor 256GB msata powered on in a very small aluminum Sabrent USB 3.0 SSD Enclosure (no venting and 1.5" x 3.0x x 0.5")...

There are two ways to accomplish the spirit of what you've described with the current X1, X3 and X5 - if not exactly as you described.   Option #1 (OTG-> SSD - up to 1TB and fast): Using the OTG cable, you can access external storage such as an external SSD; it's a bit bulky and cumbersome...

The Sandisk 200GB cards are not available for sale yet. B&H photo is the only vendor allowing a pre-order/notify when available option (at least as of May 3, 2015).

I agree as well; msata would be terrific. Additionally, their price points have come down to about US$190 for 512GB (Crucial), US$400 for a 1TB (Samsung); I upgrade ultrabooks with these frequently (compare to ~US$86 for a samsung 128GB EVO micosdxc). The speed of msata will also be...

I agree - msata would be ideal as we, the end user, would be able to take a considerable library with us at a reasonable price.
