    SONY NW-ZX2

I just realized I've been completely stupid for the last week or so, I had my W 60's hooked up out of phase (Was cord swapping too eagerly and problably hooked them up wrong by accident). I guess that would explain why I was looking for other options player wise, I couldn't figure out why I was...

+1 I'm definitely interested in this unit as well, it's more of a want than a need, still curious.

I've never tried the 4R but I tried the W40 in store before going all in for the W60 and it wasn't even close, the resolution of the W60's were just so much more balanced and detailed.    I'll admit I was at a vinyl shop in town and plugged the headphones into the listening station to try out...

Depending on mastering level I hover between 1/4 to 1/2 volume (Maximum 1/2 is usually too much) for most albums. I only use the option for leveling the sound between albums when I'm shuffling songs on playlists etc.

I'm using Westone W60 IEM's with the poweramp Alpha and loving it. The westone' are known to be a little too smooth so that could be why I'm enjoying the added sharpness of the app. I'm sure the stock app pairs beautifully with other headphones though, it's still a great app, just a different...

I agree, I tried the version from the google play store and didn't like it at all, the Alpha is another story, way better. For me it solved a lot of issues with clarity and soundstage. The stock player is good, don't get me wrong, I just like how the Alpha resolves the music, less "syrupy" than...

I guess I should clarify that this is when I want to use Poweramp exclusively.

    SONY NW-ZX2

Has anyone figured out how to disable the stock player completely? I'm having an issue where the stock player plays when the screen is off and the physical play button is pushed. This gets pretty irritating when you're controlling the player from your pocket. I've disabled all the lockscreens...

Well said Witigir! This is exactly what I found, I kept feeling like something wasn't quite right with the stock player, I felt it had an overall darkness to the sound that lost some fine detail. It seemed like there was always a tiny bit of noise flattening the image too. As soon as I tried the...

I've been experimenting with "DSEE HX" as well, while the app sounds great without it I like the addition of it as well, just that 5% more open, details are placed in space just a little better. My only concern would be battery life with this enabled, does anyone know if the poweramp app use...

I'm trying the new alpha of poweramp right now and I can't believe how much of a difference this player is over the stock player. Just the sorting options alone are a reason to upgrade but I have to say the sound is really impressing me. Also the UI is way less laggy than the stock player, this...

+ 1 that's what I'd try as well, also Sony mentions in the manual to put the SD card into the player first and then load it with music. You may want to wipe the card and then re-load it with music to see if that helps. Just a shot in the dark

I'll have to take the time to listen to it when I get them back. I have a couple of IEM's (much lower in quality) that are terminated with 3.5 TRRS cables and they work just fine with anything I plug them into. I don't believe there's any disadvantage to having it IMHO.   It's tough for me...

It doesn't support true balanced output, it does support a 3.5 TRRS jack for separate grounds though. Sony states it's a minor improvement in separation and crosstalk. I'm getting my aftermarket IEM cable re-terminated as we speak, I'll be sure to post my impressions when I get it back.

I didn't mean to argue I just wanted to give my two cents about how I felt in case someone was on the fence about buying it. I'm also in the "thank you Sony" camp. I do feel it's a high quality product, and I've spent way more on big rig components. That's where the value lies in this for me...

Did you change the storage settings to micro sd before you plugged the unit in? I had to figure that out as well, you can only look at the internal memory or the sd card, never both at the same time.

Also in regards to pricing on this unit, Is it expensive, yes, but being in the audio game is expensive. It's an amazing piece of portable audio gear and anyone who's bought hi end speakers and amps and record players know it's still a fraction of that investment. Could things be better in terms...

I spent some time with the Calyx M at a shop here in Toronto, I liked the sound signature a lot. Very smooth, very analogue sounding, especially with DSD files. I thought the UI was decent too. The thing that turned me off of it was the battery life, 5-8 hours isn't nearly enough. The more I use...

I just dropped off my cables for the Westone w60's to be re-terminated to TRRS. I came home and decided to dig out my old Sony XBA 4ip's for fun and noticed that they're already formatted with a TRRS plug. Ironically the volume controls don't work but the old xba's sound decent.

For $75 I might have, but a three year accidental damage warranty was something like 200+ when I was checking out (Canadian online store). I'd rather take my chances and just replace something if it goes south, you get one year parts standard so I figure that's enough for now.    Oh and be...

I'd say it's hovering around the 1 minute per GB mark. It's definitely USB 2.0 speeds.

+1 That was my impression as well. Overall I've been really impressed with how everything in this unit comes together, UI/Sound/Build/Features. The unit looks and feels much nicer in person. I just purchased a 128GB micro SD yesterday, so I'm going to load that up tonight and take some time to...

Yeah me too, I'm just experimenting with the DSEE HX now but I want to experiment with how much battery it chews through before I settle on using it or not. Sound wise I prefer it but the difference is subtle, from what I gather it's mostly just upscaling the audio to a higher bit/sample rate.

Hey Guys,   Received my ZX-2 on Tuesday morning, have been running it fairly steady since then (overnights etc probably @ 30+ hours) and wanted to give some initial impressions.   The burn in process is definitely at work with the unit, I've been experiencing a lot of the same changes posted...
