Recommend me a USB to optical S/PDIF device

I'm lusting after a Cyrus 8XPdQx to replace my failing speaker amp and have a one box dac and amp. http://www.cyrusaudio.com/product.asp?ProductID=100&text=indetail (I know the Cyrus has a USB input but from a dealer visit it identifies as a TI Burr Brown 2702 which has no digital out...

Recommend me a USB to optical S/PDIF device

I would like a "USB to toslink S/PDIF" unit to connect a PC/laptop to a DAC (to be decided on still) The DAC should up-sample and re-clock (I think, so jitter is less of a concern) so I want to go with optical for electrical isolation, but I do not mind having a choice of coax. I'm hoping...

    Musical Fidelity V-DAC Owners?

Quote: Exactly the combination that I had been trying.  I ended up using the Sony as I already owned it.  Plus as a bonus it has the connections on the back and the control on the front.  A great design innovation that (are you listening MF?)

    Squeezebox ad-hoc with laptop.

I've been having a dig an my cables are normal (ie not crossover), can these be used with the squeezebox as a direct connection to a PC?

    Squeezebox ad-hoc with laptop.

Good news! Thanks Now is the slimserver 'slim'? ie does it play nice and not hog a load of resources (ie no more than using foobar to listen to the same music)

    Squeezebox ad-hoc with laptop.

Similar question. I want to use a squeezebox 3 with my laptop. I have no broadband, no router and I was planning on using a crossover cable to connect the ethernet ports together. Will this work?

    best CD remasters?

The Stone Roses 'The Best of....' CD was quite a step up from the originals. I haven't checked them for clipping though and I wasn't so aware of the loudness war when I formed this impression......<off for a listen>

EAC paranoia. Copy (Shift+F5) or Test & Copy (Shift+F6)

You really need to get over to hydrogen audio and do some reading I do not agree with some of the above posts. Paranoid mode is generally not recommended. Secure basically re-reads so can render test and copy pointless. Burst with test and copy will be fast and you can check for matching...

EAC paranoia. Copy (Shift+F5) or Test & Copy (Shift+F6)

Best advice? use Accuraterip to check your rips against others There are two schools of though 1) Secure mode, drive caches ignore C2: Copy only 2) Burst Mode: Test and Copy I find 2) works well with good quality discs. If accuraterip does not have a match then I use a second ripper and...

    New Sennheiser canalphones (CX400, CX500, CXL400, CX55, CX95)

Near Identical specs to the 300? Well, lots of us wanted to try the 300 with a volume attenuator so we could turn our sources up and then the attenuator down to tame the hiss (I have to have my shuffle on a very low volume setting). I have never found a shure attenuator around here So is the...

    Cracking noise on new recordings

Yes, but the crackle is a side effect of using vinyl. The reason for using vinyl was to develop an entirely new technique Some great info here: portishead | western eyes Oh and Teardrop was a Massive Attack (another Bristol band) tune

    Cracking noise on new recordings

Portishead did not have 'crackle added for 'effect''. They put their samples onto vinyl and used scratching to create their sound.

    Hard / Semi-Hard Case for SR-60's??

I use a caselogic DVD case (with the inserts removed, was pretty easy. It would benefit from a cardboard frame (like they come with when you buy them to maintain their shape) if you will abuse it)

Musical Fidelity XDAC v8 through USB

Had the opportunity to borrow one of these this weekend. Setup was easy. It uses a standard driver so there is no messing. You can leave windows sounds through your sound card and ask foobar to route to the MF (my preferred setup). It does not appear to work with ASIO (ASIO4ALL or ASIO2KS)...

    E-MU 0404 USB like a skipping CD?

It is an 865 chipset with a P4 on it. Not ancient. A full windows install to get a plug and play USB device to work? ROTFLMAO. I took the nasty piece of plastic back after it ground my laptop (on which it did work) to a halt every time I expected it to play music. I know lots of you guys...

    E-MU 0404 USB like a skipping CD?

Before I abandon this thread: Has anyone ever had a PC on which their 0404 USB clicks or is otherwise unreliable (where it works fine on another machine) and then got it to work? As it is the USB hardware Is it worth trying motherboad or chipset drivers etc.
