REVIEW: Astell & Kern AK240
warrenpchi Please make (in a future) a comparative review between AK240 and HM-901, Colorfly C4, HiFi-MA9, Calyx M, etc. (compare the sound quality only) I think it will be highly appreciated by the people...- VladGuardian

Back to HM-901 (HM-901 -> AK120 -> HM901)
costas23: Colorfly C4 being loved for its naturality, musicality and smoothness (though sound is tastefully colored). Why do you stated it has "digital sound"? Could you describe in detail sound of Colorfly C4? Which headphones did you use with it? I'm interested in your subjective...- VladGuardian

The Astell & Kern AK120
fumanchu: Are you questioning me? I only could tell you that AK120 has: - great UI (a minimalist's dream) - not buggy (almost), when comparing to hifimans, colorflys, ibassos - almost great high-detailed sound with excellent scene - if you like heavy genres and prefer them, probably...- VladGuardian

The Astell & Kern AK120
fumanchu There Colorfly C5 (C5?), Calyx M are coming this year, you should show patience AK240 is not an option, because of unruly, unholy, satanic IRiver pricing...- VladGuardian

The Astell & Kern AK120
fumanchu: Did you have experience with Cowon J3? It's nearly perfect device in terms of user interface, SQ and battery-life. UI with well balanced complexity. Screen with very fast response. I think you should take a look at it (at least on YouTube), because it's definitily doesn't...- VladGuardian

The Astell & Kern AK120
45longcolt: Your sentence has ONE wrong word - "immediately". Cassette ... any song ... immediately ... this is impossible So you are idealising old-skool devices, I think. 45longcolt: On the other hand, I lived in USSR (presently - Ukraine, part of ex-USSR), and we didn't have...- VladGuardian

Colorfly C4 in 2013/4 - still relevant?
jwbrent Many thanks for your "extensive review". audionewbi: Hmm... it's vice versa in my case... constantly converting my collection from FLAC -> WAV is unnatural and unhandy process (slowiness of conversion is not an issue). On the other hand, I always cut entire albums to tracks...- VladGuardian

Colorfly C4 in 2013/4 - still relevant?
KT66: I think AK100 NOT a competitor against C4... even AK120 not a competitor to C4. This touches sound only, of course. (and I mean 6,3mm output of C4, of course) Present time I seriously consider C4(used) and HiFiMAN-901(new) as improvement in sound over my AK120, because I often...- VladGuardian

The Astell & Kern AK120
CraftyClown: +1 I've experienced that 4 times for 3.5 months. (occasionally, not repeated events) But I think Mister 45longcolt just panicing, because AK120 doesn't spoil the data on memory card (nor the filesystem). It's all about just restarting device, honestly. And I think it's more...- VladGuardian

Back to HM-901 (HM-901 -> AK120 -> HM901)
Two people already who prefers MiniBox with HM-901... NICE Local customer also recommended me this amp card. CosmicHolyGhost, are you listening to any heavy genres? I mean - ANY, i.e. any from blues to death-metal would be "heavy"- VladGuardian

Denon AH-D7100
roman r: Hmmm... D7100 are very controversial headphones... Last time, connected to Arkhipov'S Melo they sounded very LoFi for me... Other times, connected to AK120 it seemed so spectacular... So I concluded that they DOESN'T LIKE powerful amplification. AK120 has no powerful amps, so...- VladGuardian

Back to HM-901 (HM-901 -> AK120 -> HM901)
CosmicHolyGhost: AK240 is from different price league: AK120 ~ $1000-1300 HM-901 ~ $1000 AK240 ~ $2400 OOPS Be careful what you're writing, we're not so dumb people as you may think P.S. There's only a little probability AK240 will sound more spectacular than HM-901... only a...- VladGuardian

Reply to review by 'vladguardian' on item 'HiFiMAN HM-901'
Many thanks for this extremely comprehensive (and 'poetic' ;-) ) review. I'm surely heading for HM-901 for now. But now I will decide, whether to sell my AK120 or not... time will tell. P.S. Sister Poland, hello from Ukraine, by the way :)- VladGuardian

Worth getting the Denon D7100 if I own the D600?
V-Moda M100 for portable use is for real. D7100 (I think 600 also) tends to fly away from your head when you biking extensively (or doing other outdoors-activity).- VladGuardian

Denon AH-D7100
Who want to hear what a BASS these miraclous headphones could reproduce, SHOULD hear albums: (1997) "Come My Fantics", (2000) "Dopethrone" or (2010) "Black Masses" of british doom/stoner band Electric Wizard Even with EQ is off, the basses are awesome from my AK120 genuine pleasure. With this...- VladGuardian

Primetime86: You are welcome! Primetime86: If primary use will be listening from powerful sources (CD, home theater, or Colorfly C4 maybe), instead of listening from portable player, you should also look to Fostex TH-900. They are real successors of Denon D7000, but needs alot more...- VladGuardian

I'm using it with AK120. Burned them for 150 hours (50% of time with IsoTek + 50% time with TaraLabs, at volume level a bit more than usual level). Sounding 8/10 for me: detailed, lots of quality bass (even with EQ off), good scene, good separation of instruments, airiness. Sounds...- VladGuardian
