Philips X1 vs Polk Audio RTA-12B

This review is just for fun.     Pictures are taken with the s***y camera on my phone.  My apologies.   Both the speakers and headphones are playing simultaneously which gave me the ability to directly compare.  Switching back and forth took less then a second.  As fast as you can put on the...

    Looking for a DAC...

Do you think at that low of a budget I should just save for the Pioneer SC-75?  From what I've read ESS's Sabre 32 is a good chip.  Same chip that's in the Oppo BDP-105 which is highly regarded in other audio forums.

    Looking for a DAC...

NAD M51 - DIRECT DIGITAL DRIVE DAC & PRE - NEW SEALED $2,673.42 Buy It Now   Good lord, that's more then I have in my entire stereo and headphones setup, including TV.   I suppose I should have specified, my budget limit is ~$300.  Less is better but nothing junk either.  ...

    Looking for a DAC...

...that will work in Linux.  Every DAC I come across says Windows and OSX.  Is there drivers that are installed?  Otherwise what is the reasoning behind nobody listing their product will work with Linux?   If this does not exist then I need a DAC that will accept HDMI.   My laptop does not...

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)

PC and PS3 aren't so bad but the 360, because it uses DVDs, is pretty bad.  The bluray drive in the XB1 should bring it on par with it's competition.   I appreciate your help and advice.  Truly.   If we had a section in the forum here for "regular" stereo equipment, I could return the favors.

Aww, bummer.  Are these surround sound "effect" processors nothing like this?   That splitter would work perfect.

New - RX-V667 Vintage - CA-1010   So, basically, I want something like this Mixamp.  Is there any product out there like Mixamp that also has a optical OUT port?  So I can run an optical cord from the console to the mixamp (where my headphones will reside) and also run another optical cord...

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)

The vintage Yamaha is powering my main speakers via preouts of the 7.1 AVR for a few reasons.  First is they are 4 ohm speakers, in some frequencies dipping into the low 3 ohm range.  The vintage Yamaha is rated for a 4 ohm load.  Second is that it is a better sounding and better built...

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)

This thread is huge and I don't feel like reading the entire thing, so my apologies because I'm certain this has been answered a number of times.   I currently have an Xbox 360 and come November I will have an Xbox One.  I have a 7.1 Yamaha AVR as well as a vintage Yamaha receiver, either of...

    [New] Philips Fidelio X1

Only thing I'm not sure of is how I will wire everything together if I get a headphone amp to use it with my 360 and soon to be Xbox One while still retaining the ability to use my real stereo.  I will have to figure out how to convert the digital signal from the console so the headphone amp...

    [New] Philips Fidelio X1

I have a cable being made now by a kind member here, I'll check out this cable theory soon.   Another observation:  These headphones friggin stink.  Like chemicals.  I hope it goes away.   Edit: I also wonder if the bass is due to using a receiver to power the headphones and a impedance...

    [New] Philips Fidelio X1

Got my X1's today.  Real quick initial impressions:  Far more realistic sounding then the Monoprice 8323 and the bass goes much deeper.  Bass QUANTITY is not as much as I expected from reading all the reviews.  Extremely comfortable.  Extremely.   Now to really listen to them...

Are those big, home-theatre receivers Amplifiers?

There are vintage receivers that put some serious power out the headphone jack and I'm sure there are a few newer AVR's that are better than some of the cheaper/mid headphone amps.

Are those big, home-theatre receivers Amplifiers?

I agree with Mal that I also find it hard to believe a generalized statement like "AVR's have a crappy, seperate, headphone amp".  I find it much more likely that the headphone output on the majority of AVR's is run off the main amp with a resistor or resistors inline.

    Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners

It coincides with the Yamaha RX-V667 above it which has preouts.  The CA-1010 is powering the main L/R Polk RTA-12B's and the RX-V667 is powering the Polk Monitor 5 centers and Polk Monitor 4 rear surrounds (not pictured).   I can use either receiver for my headphones.
