I am using an NFB-28 right now, portable on a HiFi m8 with IEM mod, and even my Clip Zip.   I would say that these are very easy to drive.  The Clip's volume has to be pushed near max but honestly it sounds pretty good.  The NFB-28 is a bit overkill,  I have no need to ever go above 50% or so...

In an effort to get this working I switched over to the UNi drivers so i am actually using the C-Media Panel.  But in both of them I was able to select Dolby Headphone without ticking the 7.1 box, so long as headphone output was selected on the analog side.
