The SE215 do not have filters. The special edition comes with foam tips with built in wax guards (none of my other Shure IEMs came with these) but neither version has any sort of filter/damper. The difference in sound comes from the drivers.

The ones they sent me are definitely legitimate. I did a little bit of research before buying from them, but everything I found was positive and some of those reviews were from head fiers.

The SE535 are very sensitive and sound great unamped. You might benefit from an amp a little, but it probably won't be cost effective, or you might just get extra hiss and no improvement. Of course an amp/dac is always good to have, especially if you're considering full size headphones as well.
