Help with Grado SR80 cable mod

I'd like to turn my SR80's into mobile iPod phones by fitting a short-ish coil cord, single sided exit instead of using a 'yoke'. Looks like a small cable could be run inside the vinyl headpiece to make it single sided, but what is a souce for buying coil cable (and a small mini-plug)...

    How will DT-990's break in?

I'm asking for any experience on how the 990's might change after appropriate run-in time. I've had the DT-880's for 2 weeks, and they changed subtly after ~180 hours on them now, with smoother highs and slightly more bass - in other words, they tilted slightly downward in the sonic spectrum...

    Identify DT880 old / new

I know there was a newer design for 2005, but don't know what it looks like. I've seen 2 different DT-880's: 1) flat outer earcup with 'beyerdynamic' tag in the middle. 2) more rounded outer earcup with 'DT 880' tag at the bottom. Which is the newer model? Thanks

    ER4-P to 'S' cable adapter

I like my 4P's (wish they has just a bit more bass impact). Can someone explain to me how and why the SQ is affected just by adding an impedence raising adapter cable like the 'p' to 's' adapter that Ety offers? I do have the RSA Hornet and LOD available if needed with the 's' adapter. In...

    Hornet break-in

I know 'pink noise' for speakers / cans, but what about amps (Hornet in my case)? Pink noise, sine wave frequency sweep, square wave, or just plain music from iTunes hooked to the sound card? Thanks, John F

    AudioLineOut LOD characteristics

Anyone know if the different type of copper and silver wire LOD's have typical sound signatures that are audibly different? My equipment (Dt880's, Hornet amp) lean to the 'bright' side, so I want to avoid an LOD that will exagerate brightness any more. Thanks, John F

Pulled the trigger on a Hornet

I had every intention of buying an inexpensive portable amp like XM4 or Headphonia as my first headphone amp. I made the mistake of reading the Hornet threads and calling Ray at RSA. Next thing you know, I'm on my payPal account, spending nearly 4x my initial budget. If this continues, I'll...

    Long story: A headphone rediscovery

Midleaged long-time music listener here, recent serious shoulder surgery and recovery dictates more time with the iPod and less with my favored Harbeth speakers lately and for a bit into the future. Using the Senn PX 100's for audiobooks and ER4-P's for music now (a good bit of HF hearing loss...

    Amp for DT880's?

older guy here, fair amount of HF hearing loss, so I tend to prefer a 'brighter, sound which may explain why I like my ER4-P's. Just ordered DT880's and will of course need an amp for my gen5 iPod. Music: Split between classical, rock, r&b, blues, big band. Considering the XM4 on the...
