I built a full-configuration version earlier this week, and it works great. So far I've used it usb from my work pc into a mini3, and optical from an airport express into an onkyo receiver. The only issue is that I somehow killed my usb board the day after I got everything built. It happened...

I think the J1201 is the smallest that is capable of that... I know tomb has been able to just squeeze a pimeta and 2 9v rechargeables into one, and I've got a pimeta with a AAA battery pack in one. There are a few newer sizes with the plastic endpieces that might be able to fit a pair of 9v.

I've done this - I used a DPDT switch on mine, I left the grounds connected.

The more I think about this, the more I kind of want to do it. I think the best route to go would be like you said, a web site. BOMs could be shared, edited, tagged, searched, have RSS notification, etc. There could be some integration with octopart and even maybe digikey/mouser/etc carts built...

Hmm, interesting idea. If I wasn't up to my eyebrows in development work right now I'd be tempted to whip something up. Have you seen http://octopart.com/? Its a part search engine... dunno how well it works.

I've got LMH6321 mounted on browndogs in my pimeta. I like it a lot. I haven't tried to stack them at all, though.

I think the 4 at the end refers to the number of decimal places (can't remember the exact meaning) but I think that makes it .22uF. Can't help you on the resistor.

I've used regular dremel bits, but I just tried out some nice titanium-something or other bits last weekend and they seemed to work pretty well I'm not sure how bits made for drilling wood will hold up with the aluminum, but it is fairly thin.
