    Anyone using Linux?

I'm setting up a server/htpc/etc running linux right now. Has anybody had good experience with certain sound cards under linux? I'm a little behind on the audiophile game, but I'd like to get a good sound card for this one. thanks Redwoood

    Star Wars Soundtrack: thoughts?

I don't think you can get that version in Canada. I've got the mp3 of course and it's one of the better pieces on the CD. I like this score, but I don't think it's as good as the other ones, including TPM. I'm a sucker for melody, and this is the least melodic SW score... still damn good...

    Star Wars Soundtrack: thoughts?

First of all, it does have a version of the imperial march in it, secondly there's an older thread about this score in the music forum, would be great if somebody could merge them Bye Redwoood

Hey, this XB940 has something that the 333ES hasn't got...

And it's Sony's stupid naming scheme again.... They have so many different devices with similar product numbers, it's no surprise people are confused. BTW: I think the XA version plays in a league above the US non-XA version, performance and price-wise... Bye Redwoood

    very expensive earplugs...

JMT, thanks man. These things are just incredible, super-detailed. Right now, I find myself going through my entire music collection and 'rediscovering' every single song... It's like having a direct line-out->brain connection. Can't wait to get home and give them some amplification... and...

    very expensive earplugs...

Thanks Joe, I hope I won't neglect my other 'phones now. But I can't really imagine this could happen, I find it hard to listen to earbuds for more than 2 hours straight. I usually get a very strange, almost headache-like sensation (shold probably try using some crossfeed). No problems with...

    very expensive earplugs...

...are in my ears right now. Yep, I did it, bought myself a pair of ER4Ps for my Birthday. You have to treat yourself if nobody else does... I've been testing them for the last hour now. I think I got a proper seal pretty quickly. The bass is not earthshaking but it's definitely there...

Episode 2: Attack of the Clones (John Williams)

Well darker, that's for sure. But "things are at their worst" ? Well, I guess it depends who you are... this probably applies to Republicans (*) and other Rebel scum. A quick look at my avatar should reveal that I don't quite share that opinion... Bye Redwoood (*)...

    Grado 225 Vs 325

I actually like the 225 better... much better. Someone would have to pay me 100 $ to get me to buy the 325... But that's just me Let the flaming begin Bye Redwoood

Episode 2: Attack of the Clones (John Williams)

Well, accusing Williams of plagiarism is pretty harsh, I'd say. While I have never seen The Seventh Seal, I can hardly believe it was copied identically. "Inspired by" is probably more accurate. Oh, a very important "inspiration' for Star Wars (that you left out surprisingly) is Holst's...

Episode 2: Attack of the Clones (John Williams)

Personally, I find the electric guitar part pretty disturbing, but I guess that's just my taste. IMHO this album is not exactly "Williams standard fare" . It is much less melody-based than what JW usually does - especially with star wars. The Leitmotif approach doesn't seem to be the driving...

I "think" i know what i want for computer, but help me make sure

yeah, if you can't audition and can't/don't wanna take advantage of headroom's return policy, I would suggest you search for people's opinions on the 'phones you're interested in. One cannot characterize a headphone just by looking at it's price tag. The AKGs are excellent cans, but they...

Episode 2: Attack of the Clones (John Williams)

yeah, I know what you mean. I tried not to look at the track listings, but this was absolutely impossible. Well, this time the titles don't give away much, so I didn't see too much. I haven't had a look at the liner notes yet, and I won't do until I see the movie, that's for sure. BTW...

I "think" i know what i want for computer, but help me make sure

woah, careful there. The Sennheiser HD580 is a great pair of headphones, regardless whether it's a cheap hd600 or the hd600 is a more expensive hd580 or whatever. Fact is: The HD580 and 600 sound very close, and the premium you pay for the 600 is another case of the "diminishing returns" in...

Comparison Review: Ety ER6 vs both 4p and 4s (Very Long)

dgs, thanks for your review. Since my birthday is coming up -as well as another trip to Europe - I thought I might buy myself a nice (and useful) present. And I've always wanted to own Etys anyway... And just as I wanted to post the usual "which one should it be?" message I noticed this...

ts, I can't believe nobody else got this CD. One of the greatest composers of our time releases a new installment of - what many believe - his best work and nobody cares... go figure. Well, maybe you need a review first. Personally, I'm starting to like this score better the more I listen...

    Verdi's Requiem- Similar Recommendations?

As for Mozart's Requiem, I own the Deutsche Gramophon (Karajan, Berlin Philarmonic) version from '62. I'm not sure if it's a very good recording, but possibly not. Haven't heard any other versions yet. It was the cheapest version I could find back then, and I'm just a poor student...
