Tool: Prog, Art, Metal? All? None?
If you like tool check out an Aussie band by the name of Cog. www.cog.com.au A slightly different idea behind songwriting. But they are an incredible band none the less, and the musicianship is top notch. A very very tight group. -
Sennheiser HD 580 bad...Beyer DT 831 good!

Beyer DT 770 or DT 831? Please compare!
I recently came into ownership of a pair of 831's. While most people dont like their revealing nature for rock and metal im really becoming accustomed to it. I really do love the accuracy it provides. You can hear each individual instrument very clearly. Right down to the effects theyre using on...- Poddy

Recording Fidelity and Reproduction: Real-World Systems
The saying your only as strong as your weakest component is very pertinent to this discussion. As such if you have a top system but poorly recorded material it is going to bring out every inaccuracy within the music. By the same token very good gear is often thought of as such because it...- Poddy

About 1/3 rd on each i usually budget for. Perhaps roll a bit more towards speakers depends on how everything is sounding together.- Poddy

biggest sell out?
I dont agree with the Metallica call. If you want reasons just ask and ill post them. But i dont think it will amount to much more than a flame fest. Every second metal head reckons they sold out. Its as if it proved your validity to say that. -

Where do you stand on hip-hop as a musical form?
It has its place. Obviously not in my collection but each to their own. If you enjoy it power to you. As for my own opinion. As has been mentioned before older hip hop which really started it all is all that i can bear. As in my belief it actually was a musical form. People like Run dmc were... -
Recording/Mastering Headphones?
It is in my belief the bandwith being provided to us by cd and now sacd and dvda is being absolutely wasted by record labels wanting a "loud cut single. So it sounds high energy and good on the raido. The dynamicness of music is being absolutely slaughtered. My sister (bless her ignorant pop...- Poddy

Is it all just psycholocological?
In my opinion it all comes down to you as a person. For myself to enjoy music i have to relate to it. It could present itself a few ways. Say i really empathise with they lyrical content and the progression of the music suits the material. Another situation might be where the sounds of the...- Poddy

Leonard Cohen
After reading this thread i decided to check him out. Seeing the comparison to Tom Waits and i have been a fan of Tom for quite a while. I actually preferred the sound of Lenoards voice. It is a tad more mellow and easier to just get carried away in. Thanks to John_Jcb for introduching him to... -

Vinyl versus CD
Cds are a great format. And with technology SACD and DVDA could produce better recordings than that reproduced by a vinyl. Dont think that just because something is on a record it will sound better than a cd. Obviously some good quality audiophile grade recordings will be. But over time the...- Poddy

They will sound better than the portable unit. Perhaps look at getting a fairly high class headphone amp in the future some time. As the Denon is a fairly good cd player.- Poddy

Since my other thread got hijacked
My opinion is that Cables do very little for the sound of the music and spending incredible amounts on them is ridiculous. However the only way your going to find out is by jumping in the deep end. *Note - There is a need for a well constructed cable that is shielded and well terminated. But...- Poddy

HP890 hysteria hits down under!!!
Depends on many factors. What your driving the headphones with. What styles the mp3s are. All in all they will sound worse when played through headphones. The extra clarity and detail you receive from having cans pointed right into your ears is something you can only experience. But whether or...- Poddy
