Sub $100 with punchy bass?
I've been using a pair of the original RockJaw Alfa Genus earbuds for awhile and I'm kind of bored, what would be a good upgrade from them while maintaining the punchy bass they have? Oh, and I'd prefer them to be closed. I'll be using them at work and my co-worker chews like a moron so I need...- jfindon

REVIEW: HiFiman HM-601
Awhile back I Rockboxed my 601 and got way overwhelmed with the EQ settings and I basically had it sounding like garbage compared to the way it sounded like stock. Does anyone have any tips or settings for the EQ to go along with my HE-400 headphones?- jfindon

Sunglass-Fi?
Just because I'm thinking of it, I'm sure I found the Ray Bans from the show I posted about on the last page. http://www.ray-ban.com/usa/sunglasses/RB3362-COCKPIT-Gold/805289275268 Same arm thickness and all.- jfindon

Sunglass-Fi?
Pretty sure these are the same ones, but can't find an HD source. Much bigger picture though: http://i.minus.com/i4L1zasCQ2f0M.jpg Could they be simple RayBans? EDIT: Think I found them: ...- jfindon

REVIEW: HiFiman HM-601
Well I installed Rockbox on mine last night and I think I'm going to revert back to stock. There are so many options and settings I'm totally overwhelmed, there's too much control for someone who doesn't really know much past the normal EQ functionality. I can't get it sounding as good as I...- jfindon

Sunglass-Fi?
So, anyone know if it's worth trying to sell a pair of Dillons that I just dropped in the road? I am so pissed off at myself, I have never dropped anything expensive in my life. I had them up on my hat when I went into a store, and when I came out I must have moved too much and they just fell...- jfindon

Sunglass-Fi?
The matte lenses on the Dillons are really pulling me in, I haven't seen anything else that I feel like I want to try since I saw those. I have no clue what their 30 day money back guarantee entails, but I emailed them to ask about it. If it's what I think it is, I have no reason not to try...- jfindon

Sunglass-Fi?
Since I have no way of knowing how they'll look thanks to having no stores in the state of PA who carry them, I'm not sure I even want to try buying them. I don't know if you can find them cheaper than the $280 they're listed for direct from Dillon because I can't even find any dealers that...- jfindon

Sunglass-Fi?
Quote: Thanks, I did see your thread and started checking out some of those brands. I'll check out Salt Optics next, I was just looking at Dillon Optics and thought the Drakes looked pretty nice, but no clue how they'd actually look on me: How do they stack up frame/lens...- jfindon

Sunglass-Fi?
I'm bored and want some new sunglasses. I have Maui Jim South Shores right now and wanted something with a little bit bigger lenses. I looked at the MJ Sand Island and Fleming Beach and both didn't look right on me, not to mention they certainly didn't feel like $320 sunglasses. My South...- jfindon

New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out
Quote: Sweet, I do have that album, I'll have to check it out. And I still find these weight "issues" funny. No offense meant, I just can't fathom how something that's the weight of these headphones can be a nuisance. I'm weighing them when I get home. Maybe it's just because...- jfindon

New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out
Quote: What part of my previous posts made it so difficult to understand that's exactly what I'm doing? I don't remember for sure but I don't think I mentioned hearing distortion/noise. It just sounds weak, dull, and muffled. There's no clipping or popping.- jfindon

New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out
Quote: To me it doesn't sound good at all by any standard. I had the volume almost all the way up in the control panel and it was barely even loud enough, everything sounded muddy/muffled even with EQ at certain extremes.- jfindon

New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out
Quote: Put it on headphone mode, tried messing with the EQ a bit, still sounds like crap compared to my HM-601 and MK1+. I'm too afraid of messing with options while I listen because knowing my luck something will crank the volume and I'll blow something out. I remember that happening...- jfindon

New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out
Quote: Yep, I'm plugging it into the port my speakers are currently plugged into, it's the only one I can get sound out of. It's too much of a pain in the ass to pull my 40lb computer out and check which ports they are, let me find a picture online... According to that, I'm...- jfindon

New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out
Thanks for the in depth reply IEMCrazy. I may go with the cables anyway, the "premium" Monoprice ones are still $11 without shipping, so what's another $20 when I'm already dropping $800+? Quote: My Xonar didn't come with any cables so that's a moot point. And just for the...- jfindon

New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out
Quote: I don't really see the point in having exact length cables on something that is going to be sitting on my desk and likely never move... I can't think of a reason 18" cables wouldn't work just as well, what makes shorter ones so much better? Does signal degrade that fast? ...- jfindon

New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out
Quote: Hence why I want to use Monoprice :D Are they just RCA cables? And figures, first the Lyr goes out of stock when I wanted to buy, then it came back in stock, and now the Bifrost is OOS until September 14th.- jfindon

New Hifiman Headphone HE-400 is out
I'm thinking about ordering the Lyr + Bifrost in a week or so, what else am I going to need in the way of cables to connect everything? I'll either be using my HM-601 or my PC (Xonar DX). I know Schiit has those PYST cables but at $20 I'm sure I can find a cheaper alternative at Monoprice... ...- jfindon
