Looking for office-friendly alternatives to my ATH-AD900

Hi everyone,   I love my ATH-AD900 to pieces. Great soundstage, light open sound perfect for chamber music and instrumental classical, which is what I mostly listen to. However, I am leaking quite a bit of sound when I use them at work. I am looking for something similar but more appropriate...

Headphones most similar to Sennheiser HD 545 Reference?

Hi. The library at my college has Sennheiser HD 545 and I really like their open airy sound. What headphone should I get under $100 that is similar to Sennheiser HD 545 Reference?   Also, what is the best USB sound card under $50?   Thank you

FLAC to MP3 converter that preserves tags/folder structure

Hi. I'm looking for a FLAC to MP3 converter that does its best to preserve tags and folder structure.   I'm basically slimming down for my smartphone, so sound quality is not really an issue, I just want to be able to navigate through my music as painlessly as possible.   Any recs would be...

$100 max for an open headphones for classical music

Hi. I almost exclusively listen to classical music, and I don't have any fancy amps or DACs. I want to spend $100 and the best sound I can get for that price range.   Browsing the FS section of the forums, I see Alessandro MS1i, Grado SR80i, and Sennheiser 555. Which would be ideal for...

I sometimes get a buzzing noise during low-pitched parts

Hi. I usually listen to orchestral music on my ATH-AD900 and whenver the lower instruments play, e.g. cello, trombone, etc, there is a bit of a buzzing noise. It sounds like very grainy static.   My configuration right now is playing flac on VLC through Sound Blaster X-fi Go USB sound card.  ...

    The ATH-AD900 Thread

Hi. How do I take off the pads of the ATH-AD900? I might need to see if there are hairs stuck to the drivers (buzzing noise during loud low-pitched sections of music) and also I bought a replacement pair.   Thank you

    Buzzing noise during low-pitch sounds

Hi. I have a secondhand pair of ATH-AD900 and whenever there is a cello or double bass part, I can hear a certain buzzing. It's not unbearably distracting, but it is certainly audible. My cheaper IEMs don't produce this buzzing noise, which leads me to conclude that it's something to do with the...

Sub $250 headphones for Classical music

Hi. I have around $250 to spend on a pair of headphones to replace my HD 428.   The contestants are ATH-AD900 and Sennheiser 598 so far.  I'm looking mostly for full-size open (or at least semi-open) headphones. I won't be carrying these around.   I'm leaning towards ATH-AD900 since a...

No detailed song data when I rip FLAC using Exact Audio Copy

Hi. I am pretty new to all this audiophile stuff. I have a Superlux 668 that I just picked up a few days ago and wanted to upgrade my music from 256kbps mp3 to FLAC. Besides, I'm moving out soon and don't want to carry all my CDs.   Now, I'v ebeen ripping some CD's using Exact Audio Copy. I...

Looking for upgrade in the $150 region for classicla music

Hi. My current setup is Sennheiser HD428 (recently developed an intermittent buzzing noise, so want to buy a new one) and Sansa Clip +.   I listen to mostly classical music. So far, headphones that I might buy are ATH AD900 (if I can find them used), ATH AD700, Sennheiser 558, maybe...

Should I use a headphone amp with Pantech Breeze III?

Hi. I decided to stop using a smartphone and get a dumbphone. (Saves $360/yr, with which I can probably get a decent pair of headphones).   Right now I use the Sennheiser 439, and the audio quality from the phone (upgraded with a 32GB microSD) is pretty bad. There are statics, buzzing. The...

Most of my tunes are in 128 kbps. Are good headphones worth it?

    I use a LG GT540 with a 8GB microSD.

Most of my tunes are in 128 kbps. Are good headphones worth it?

I rip my CD's to FLAC first, since my computer HDD is 500 GB. I make a copy of the flac and conver those into 128 kbps MP3 when I load them into my smartphone,w hich is not so spacious.   I'll convert the FLAC to the 192 and 320 kbps and see if the sound is much improved.

Most of my tunes are in 128 kbps. Are good headphones worth it?

Hi.   I'm not a huge audiophile, hence the 128 kbps MP3 in my smartphone and laptop.   I just listen through my laptop and smartphone, and would like to know if getting a good pair of headphones is worth it. I have a Sennheiser HD 428 but it's pretty much broken so I've been looking at...

Music genres and headphone characteristics to complement them?

Hi.   I wanted to know what kind of headphone characteristics would be best suited for each genre of music, like I guess headphones with heavy, full bass would be great for dubstep/electronic music.   I usually listen to classical and jazz. I'm right now just browsing through headphone...

Best isolation headphones for under $50

My ear canals are shaped a bit weird, so it's really hard for me to find IEMs that fit right. Also, the noises that you hear when the cords touch anything is pretty annoying.   Thanks for the suggestions though!

Best isolation headphones for under $50

Hi.   My old Sennheiser HD 428 gave out this week. I am not a big audiophile, and there would be too much background noise to fully appreciate the audio quality anyhow. I have a budget of $50 and I'm looking for the headphones with the best isolation of outside noise. As long as the...
