Hi.

My old Sennheiser HD 428 gave out this week.
I am not a big audiophile, and there would be too much background noise to fully appreciate the audio quality anyhow.
I have a budget of $50 and I'm looking for the headphones with the best isolation of outside noise. As long as the audio quality isn't atrocious I probably wouldn't mind.

Thanks for your suggestions!

I'd consider the low-end Etymotic Research IEMs..by far the best isolation Ive EVER experienced and they're very musical for how well they get rid of sound.

My ear canals are shaped a bit weird, so it's really hard for me to find IEMs that fit right. Also, the noises that you hear when the cords touch anything is pretty annoying.

Thanks for the suggestions though!

If you wear your IEMs over your ear, it completely cuts out the microphonics. You could try a pair MEElectronics M6s. Good budget IEM with a good sound for the price.

Otherwise, I would opt for a pair of M30s, or maybe Sony's MDR-V6 for just a bit more than your budget.

Some KSC75s with the clips removed and stuffed into some safety muffs. That is what I did.

fair enough.
+1 for the ety's fairly accurate too, if anything a little bass light
Shure se215 is another option if you decide to follow the IEM course.
Although for closed backs you could go for shure SRH240 or Ultrasone HFI-450.
Both are fairly strong and able to withstand some battering
