HD650 and HD600 can be had for similar prices - if comfort is a priority you might want to consider other options as the HE-400 is supposedly somewhat hefty

Very odd, when I fidget the tip of the cable going into the amplifier, I can hear sound coming through both channels. When I push it all the way in though, it only comes through the right channel. Any ideas as to what's going on here?

I've owned a pair of ATH M50s for a few months now and I couldn't be happier. I listen to a wide variety of music from alt rock, jazz, ambient, and these phones really do give you the best bang for your buck.    Go with the M50s for sure, you won't regret it.
