you need a new pair of headphones for your vinyl. I'm happy with the 701 with vinyl, it sounds not too much different from the digital versions besides all the expected improvements and faults. From my own experience, vinyl is the most enjoyable with a pair of headphone when it is damn clean...

bad idea auditioning those lcd2s....your wallet certainly won't appreciate that.   anyway back to the main topic, considering your budget is actually quite high and the music you listen to. I would recommend you to find your self a pair of Grado, 325s and rs2s are great cans within that...

if you primarily listen to rock, don't get the 701, it's not going to amaze you. 701s can do wonders in a lot of other genres, rock is not one of them. I bought myself a rs2 for that precise reason.
