Test Your Ability To Hear Pitch!
Sort of old thread but I just had to post my awesome result :D "Thank you for taking our Pitch Discrimination Test at http://musicianbrain.com/pitchtest. At 500 Hz you can reliably hear pitch differences of 0.390625 Hz, which means you did better than approximately 100.0% of people who... -
Dockconnector-to-rca cable, bypass iPod DAC?
As a rule, if you're connecting anything with an rca cable the signal is analog and the DA conversion will have happened before this step.- aajohan

Budget IEM
Quote: If you want a Meelectronics IEM, I recommend buying them from their own website meelec.com. The CW31 are $30 there, with $7 shipping to Lithuania. My experiences with buying from them are very positive.- aajohan

Upgrade from E7+E9 to Yulong D100?
I've never regretted buying the D100. However, I thought it was too analytical, maybe even boring with my K701's, so now i mainly use it as a DAC - at which it does an absolutely amazing job. I've never owned the E7 or E9, but it was a HUGE improvement over my ibasso d2+. Crystal clear and...- aajohan

Speaker vs. Headphone Soundstage / Positional cues / Imaging
I too don't really understand... But I think you're overrating what the human ears are actually able to hear. Think of it like this: an ear is just a single point in space that "hears" the vibrations in the air at exactly this point. This point just happens to be positioned a few...- aajohan

Classical
If you ever get a craving for the newer, more "challenging" classical music you should definitely have a look (listen ) at these: Carl Nielsen: Danish Composer (yay! there aren't so many) - I especially love his wind quintet, clarinet concert and 3. and 6. symphony. John Adams... -
Albums that are like good books
I definitely understand what you mean. Probably not what you were thinking, but I think especially in classical music this is very common, and in symphonies almost a rule (at least for the good ones). With non-classical music, all I can think of right now is "Takk..." by Sigur Rós, but I guess... -
Musicians and DJs on Head-fi! What do you own and how do you split your budget?
Quote: Cool, I actually had the chance to buy a really nice, only slightly used festival A for under half price, but chose not to as I wouldn't actually use it very often. But of course, if you're a conservatory student you need (most would say) an A clarinet as well :D- aajohan

How good are all these IEMs by MEElectronics?
I own the M6 and M9, and I think they are very good value for money. A little on the bassy side though and not so suitable for, say classical music. I've owned the sennheiser MX500s as well, and imo the Meelec's are significantly better :-)- aajohan

Laptop system - PC speakers or acoustic ones??
I'm actaully not sure what the difference between a DAC and an external sound card is - but you could just as well use a DAC for the pc-speakers. (though that does not in any way answer your question)- aajohan

High quality music + Ipod = Nothing

How does music converting work?
It would be just like re-sizing a 50x50 pixels image file to 2000x2000 pixels. It would still be low resolution, and the small image might even look better- aajohan

Protect audio Jack?
I dare say you're over-worrying. Unless you accidentally step on the jack, why would anything happen to it? I suppose it also depends on whether or not it's a mini-jack - they obviously tend to be more fragile. The only time I've damaged a headphone jack, was when it was actually plugged in (in...- aajohan

Help my dad pick jogging IEMs
I use the Meelec M6 for jogging. They have practically no microphonics (as they are worn over the ear and have a shirt clip), but they're not the most suitable for classical music.. Plus they're quite a bit under budget (I like them a lot though)- aajohan

Musical instrument powered by gravity
Cool, but I wish they had chosen something else than Bach, which requires possibly the most steady tempo of all classical music (some would say at least :D)- aajohan

POLL: Do earbuds stay in your ears?
Short answer: Yes They usually stay in my ears, but it depends on the size - If they're too big and bulky, they tend to fall out more easily. Sizes like stock Apple earbuds stay perfectly fine (not that I've used those for years ).- aajohan

New info: Musical Paradise MP-301 MK2
Probably a noob question (but hey, I am a noob ): Can the MP-301 MK2 really drive any speakers properly with only 6.5 W from each channel? I can kinda see from this thread that it can, but how? And how loud could I expect it to drive a pair of smaller, moderately sensitive speakers? (not at...- aajohan

Which Classical Music to Buy? (Composer, etc.)
Quote: If you like modernism I can highly recommend the album "Nielsen & Aho - clarinet concertos" with Martin Fröst. It's an absolute joy to listen to - I do however play the clarinet myself so that might influence my opinion
