    The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP

Hi, McLuzar.  No, I did not listen to a MkII.  I did ask Vinnie that very question.  Here is our e-mail exchange:     I have no reason to doubt Vinnie given the customer service and quality of work I have experienced together with his sterling reputation here at Head Fi.  He is a credit...

    The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP

I have had a AK100 for about six months now.  I use it with a pair of Westone 4r IEMs re-cabled with Whiplash TWag v3.    After reading this thread and much thought (maybe too much), in late-Feb, I sent it off to Vinnie at RWA for the RWAK100 mod (not the "S" mod).   I received the unit back...

Whiplash Audio's new TWau Reference wire

I run a pair of Westone 4r IEMs with Whiplash TWag3 out of a RWAK100.  It is a wonderfuly musical combination for my music preferences, which in descending order includes all types of jazz, rock, pop, folk, some country and a little classical.  I was using Moon Audio Silver Dragon v1 IEM, but...

Whiplash Audio's new TWau Reference wire

Yes, I run a pair of Westone 4r IEMs with Whiplash TWag3 out of a RWAK100.  It is a very musical combination for my music genres, which includes jazz of all types, folk, pop, rock, some country and some classical.  I was using Silver Dragon v1 IEM, but Craig's TWag3 is a clear winner...it is...

Whiplash Audio's new TWau Reference wire

Got a couple of PMs on my post.  Just to be clear, I have sold all my Moon Audio Silver Dragon v1.0 IEMs and replaced them with TWag v3.  I clearly preferred the TWag 3.0, I just wanted to offer some perspective on degree of difference - which is significant.

Whiplash Audio's new TWau Reference wire

I am a recent customer of Craig's having bought the non-OM TWagv3 for my Westone 4R IEMs in Jan '14.     First, I want to distinguish between "OM" and no-OM" using pics as there seems to be a bit of confusion remaining.      Here's OM:     Here's the non-OM:     Second, my personal...

Centrance Hifi-M8 and Hifi-M8 LX (8 versions!) impressions thread

Thanks everyone!  I have a pair of Westone 4r IEMs and per Westone the 4rs have a impedance of 31 ohms.  I use the 4rs with my AK100/RSA SR-71b combo and have no hiss or noise issues.   If I pull the trigger on the M8 LX, the SR-71b will hopefully go to a nice, new home!

Centrance Hifi-M8 and Hifi-M8 LX (8 versions!) impressions thread

I have been following this thread for a while as I am considering the M8 LX.    I am not sure what the "Low Gain IEM Mod" option is on the Centrance web site.  There is not an explanation on the web site.    The M8 has a number of gain and impedance settings, so I am not sure what this...

Centrance Hifi-M8 and Hifi-M8 LX (8 versions!) impressions thread

I have a similar question to the above  re:  adding the M8 LX RSA version.  I have a AK100 that feeds a SR-71b balanced out to a pair of Westone 4Rs.  All cabling is Moon Audio Silver Dragon V1 IEM.   I am toying with using the optical out of the AK100 into the M8 LX RSA version and selling...

    Moon Audio Reviews

I had a portable rig: iPod 4G/CLAS/SR-71b/Westone 4r.   All cabling is Moon Audio Silver Dragon v1 IEM.   Recently, I reached out to Drew to address problems I had with this rig:   About 1/3 of my digital music collection is 24/96 in lossless uncompressed FLAC and WAV; this rig is limited...

    The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP

Basic question:  when upgrading the firmware, do I need to use the iRiver SW program for your computer?  I never installed it, as I merely copy and paste music from my HDD to the AK100 folders.   Thanks.

    The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP

Recently purchased a AK100 from Moon Audio.  I made the jump at Drew's recommendation.  I had time over this past weekend to set-up.   My portable rig pairs the AK100 with an RSA SR-71b driving a pair of Westone 4Rs re-cabled with the RSA terminated Silver Dragon v1.0 IEM.  Right angle Oyaide...

Centrance Hifi-M8 and Hifi-M8 LX (8 versions!) impressions thread

I recently left a iPod 4G/CLAS/SR-71b rig for a AK100/SR-71b rig, as all of my music is either WAV or lossless, uncompressed FLAC - and about 40% of it is 24/96.  I was using two different third party apps on the iPod to play WAV and FLAC, it was hard to carry a three piece rig and I was limited...

    Stefan Audio Art Endorphin PC

Hi All.  Thought I would try this forum to see if anyone has used the SAA Endorphin PC in a DAC that is part of a dedicated head phone system.  I have one for my head phone amp and like many others find it a great fit.  I am curious about use in a DAC paired  with a head phone amp.   Thanks...

    Moon Audio Reviews

I have a pair of RudiStor MD-1s that I absolutely love. However, the left driver solder tab detached from the driver causing the left side to go in/out.  Being out of warranty, I did not know what to do. Well, I sent the MD-1s to Drew having worked with him a previously.   Drew worked with...

Just tossing it out - has anyone had the opportunity to listen to the W4S DAC2 and the Master 7?  Thoughts?

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

edmundtyw1,   Hi.  I ran a DT880 600ohm/SR71B combo for a while as my primary desk top set-up.  I found the combo very nice, though slightly underpowered.  Not that it does not play musically and loud before the bass starts getting muddy - it will.  I listened quite a bit to this combo and...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

Thanks, Melomaniac.   I specifically posted the phrase you hightlighted because it was an unknown for me. As we all know, 600 ohm headphones can be a challenge to drive - personal sonic preferences aside.  I did not have a 1/4" plug on the DT880 cable and no one on Head Fi had any experience...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

I wanted to come back and give my thoughts re:  the DT880 600 ohm and the Rudistor RPX-33.  Just yesterday, I received my Moon Audio Silver Dragon V3 cable back, this time re-terminated with Drew's nifty adapter and accompanied by two eight inch "tails" - one for the SR-71B and one for the...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

Thanks, everyone.  For what it is worth, Rudostor assures me that the RPX-33 will drive the DT880 600ohm.  I know some here at Head-Fi  don't care for Rudistor designs or sound signature, but I have not yet come across a post regarding customer service.   If the RPX-33 does not work, I can...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

For portable use, I drive the DT880 600ohms with the RSA SR-71B in balanced mode.  Actually, as I am typing this, I am listening to these DT880s using:  iPod 4G running FLAC Player ----> CLAS ----> SR-71B ----> DT880s.   Next step, the RPX-33.

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

Thanks - solid fit betweem the RPX-33 and the DT880 even at 600ohm?!   I had Drew at Moon Audio recable the DT880 600ohm when I bought them from him - he can re-terminate now with his four pin adapter and provide two 6-8 inch "tails":  one RSA and one 1/4"   Brent
