Yeah, now that others and Tyll have been able to measure it, the graphs align very closely to the 400i. Jude's measurements, which is on display for the drop, has massive bass roll off just like the 400S. Who knows what's up with his graph.

I would get the 1060 then. The 4XX will be a great value even with it tuned towards the 400S, but between build quality, comfort, and what I assume is superior sound quality, the 1060 is still well worth the $300. Also, the 4XX isn't likely to ship until December, whereas the 1060 is in stock...

I'm not experiencing what you are, after downloading all of the files I was able to extract the three zip files, and then I was able to view all 4 of the STL files correctly using http://www.viewstl.com/   It sounds like the files you're downloading from the dropbox links aren't downloading...

I don't own one, but I've heard great things about the Asus Xonar STX. Although it's about $50 above your budget, but if you can find one used I think you would be happy with that.

I'm not a huge audiophile and probably have a lower amount of experience with this kind of stuff than most head-fiers but my personal opinion is that EQ usage has more to do with personal sound preference rather than compensating for lower end audio hardware. For example, I love a heavy bass...
