Hello there,
 
I have been using the Travagan's Green amp/DAC from my PC's USB port with my Grado 225i's for months now and will soon be acquiring a Logitech Z-5500 5.1 speaker set. My PC mobo has it's own optical out, and so does the Travagan's Green. I was just wondering what would sound better/be more practical.
 
Any advice would be appreciated.

So I got the Z-5500's today and they sound great! Right now I'm using my motherboards optical out, but I'm beginning to change my mind about it. So far I haven't been able to get ASIO (from foobar2000) to work with the optical out. I haven't tried everything yet, but I know that it works well with the Travagan's Green. I read on one of the reviews here on headfi that the optical output on the Travagan's is just for those whose computers don't already have an optical out, but would there be any negative effects compared to the optical out on the mobo?
 
I will play around with it some and see if I find what I'm looking for and solutions.
